It really is our only chance of unseating Lindsey Graham in '14. The Dems and moderates love him, our only chance is to nail him in the GOP primary. The plan is to encourage as many primary voters to vote for anyone except Lady Lindsey so that he doesn't get 50% and will be forced into a head-to-head contest with the top challenger.
Georgia was a narrow win for Conservatives, as 100% ACU'er Nathan Deal edged out previously-unknown Karen Handel, who tried to smear Deal's reputation with a Soros-funded phony ethics allegation.
This is something that many outsiders -- including Sarah Palin -- didn't realize. And it illustrates why primaries are best decided by local constituents who know the candidates and issues best.
I am sorry that your fellow South Carolinians don’t have the political acumen that you do.
Isn’t Mead a conservative? His grandfather and mother were. But the grandfather did support Ford over Reagan.
Tennessee, too. :-(
Too many people never learn. What can be done to, finally, end this ongoing problem on the GOP side? Electing RINOS has got to stop, if conservatism is really going to survive for the long-term!
Closing the primaries is imperative. Let the GOP voters nominate their guys and let the Democrats choose theirs. We also need a pre-primary convention of sorts, remove the desultory and/or nuisance candidates. Get it down to a small group of candidates, preferably 2-3 that get a minimum % from the pre-primary, and if the remainder doesn’t get to 50%, institute a runoff. No crossovers from other parties. I guarantee that would weed out a LOT of the problem RINOs and Democrat activists would benefit because they’d get to put forth their most hard-core left-wing candidates. Give people a choice. If “Independents” don’t like either, they can organize their own party and do the same.
Yes;these people who run knowing only a few friends and relatives will vote for them are just a waste of everyone elde’s time-and they split the votes.
Mainly this is to assure that you don’t have a situation where a majority of the primary voters oppose the nominee. It’s absurd that (for instance) in my state, you could literally win the nomination for a major office with, say, 15% of the vote (actually, if you had 100 candidates qualify and they all split the vote, the nominee could have 1% of the vote + 1 vote and they’re the winner). It’s crazy. If the candidate isn’t acceptable to the majority, how can we expect that they’ll necessarily carry a majority into the general election ?
If Michigan’s state legislature becomes very conservative, then would that, possibly, help the RINO Governor become more conservative, too? The political makeup of the state legislatures is key to how each state will, actually, function politically.
We have a good conservative state senate here. I doubt Republicans can capture the house, that is a stretch, but anything is possible in a strong GOP year.
I don’t know much about Mead. He’s probably conservative.
Only about 700 votes decided this primary. Ron Micheli is also a strong conservative and his better-than-expected showing is a good sign. He and Rita Meyer may be heard from again in another election cycle.

By far Micheli ran the most conservative campaign here. He ran into trouble by writing a stupid letter in a high profile rape case in which he taught the convicted rapist in Sunday school
I don’t know why everyone here on Free Republic wanted Meyers so bad. I assume it is because of the Palin endorsement. Palin needed to do a little research here.
Meyers waffled badly on Healthcare when she said she supported our current Dem governor in NOT joining suit against the federal government to stop the fight. She called our Dem governor’s actions a “measured approach”.
She then went back on that when she saw it would be politically expedient and said she would like Wyoming to join suit.
She also said the federal Government has a role in “feeding the children”. Whatever that means. There is other stuff too and if you want I can post more, but since she didn’t win I suppose it is not worth the time.
And what organizations are really trying to make this happen, asap? The long-term survival of conservatism really depends upon making this happen!
We might need instant run off voting for primaries. That way people can pick their favorite conservative first, and vote the RINO last. That way the RINO doesn’t win with 36% of the vote.
...people like us with LONG memories.
