Actually, Mr. President, that's NOT what the constitution says.

...The Founding Fathers specifically meant the state could not establish an official state religion. While churches have a tax exemption and they can be used as sanctuaries for criminals, churches are not exempt from the laws of the land.

If you've any doubt, read the whole thing and then the First Amendment.

He’s wrong about the ‘founding’ part because the individual states used to have official state religions and that was fine under the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The 14th Amendment, however, pretty much killed the states doing anything that the Feds don’t like.
