Across Texas, 60,000 born to noncitizen mothers - 11,000 at Parkland

Republican members of Congress press for changes to the 14th Amendment of the Constitution that would prevent automatic citizenship for babies born to illegal immigrants.

The debate could resonate in Texas, where not only 1.5 million illegal immigrants are estimated to reside but at least 60,000 babies are added to their households annually.

Parkland Memorial Hospital delivers more of those babies than any other hospital in the state. Last year at Parkland, 11,071 babies were born to women who were noncitizens, about 74 percent of total deliveries. Most of these women are believed to be in the country illegally.

In Texas, between 60,000 to 65,000 babies achieve U.S. citizenship annually by being born in the state's hospitals, according to a tally released by the state's Health and Human Services Commission. Last year, such births represented almost 16 percent of the total births statewide.

Between 2001 and 2009, births to illegal immigrant women totaled 542,152 in Texas alone.

Dr. Steve Murdock, a past director of the U.S. Census Bureau, said it would be difficult – even impossible – to turn this demographic tide by targeting the legal status of future births.

"It might slow it down some," he said. "But the idea that the majority of Texas Hispanics are illegal is ludicrous. The vast majority are citizens."

Murdock, previously the state's chief demographer and now a professor at Rice University, said the growth of Hispanics as a group in Texas has more to do with their relatively younger ages than the Anglo majority and their higher birthrates.

"In the last decade in Texas, over 60 percent of the state population increase was due to Hispanics," he said. "The idea that the growth of Hispanics is sudden or happened only in the past few years or only in Texas is not correct."

.

Help Texas watch her borders.
Watch live on 14 cameras and report illegal alien invaders.
Night cams in operation

http://www.blueservo.net/index.php?error=nlg

Does it work? Yes.
Recently caught on cam and reported:
String of illegals running through brush with backpacks
Numerous sightings of boats crossing the river
Numerous vehicles late at night in isolated areas
IMMENSELY satisfying

And, of course, it is the tax payer who is footing the bill for the delivery of all these babies. An American citizen, even a poor one, would be responsible for at least part of the bill and could be traced for collection via their SSN. An illegal, often having multiple identities, won’t end up paying a dime. Once the child is born, the ‘illegal’ family is then legally eligible for full Federal and State benefits until the child is 18..again, the tax payer dime.

In the article Dr. Calderon insults our intelligence with his claim that doing away with anchor baby status is an attempt by Republicans to remain electorally viable by manipulating the rights of Latinos. They need to be disabused of the idea that crossing the Rio Grande illegally then giving birth gives them rights. Yes, it gives you the right to be deported.

I did my internship at LA County USC med center in the 80’s.
during my month of OB we joked we “made more citizens then a Federal Judge”. We regularly had emergency deliveries as the illegals would sit in their cars until they were just about crowning to insure they would deliver asap once they came inside ( San Diego county would cart them to the border if at all possible, this was before EMTALA).

The ONE quiet night we had on call, in the AM when we went outside we noticed a green van parked near the entrance to the Womans Hospital, they must have thought it was an Immigration vehicle and took off. The residents joked they should pool their money and buy one, for an occasional easy night on call.

I’m sure today it’s far far worse. Unless the border is somehow enforced America as we have known it is doomed. No border, no country.

We need to deport or imprison ALL illegal aliens, including their anchor babies, seal/secure the border with a wall and armed military, and have an armed response to illegal crossings.

The constitution does not need to be changed. A proper test case needs to find its way to the SCOTUS to determine the status of anchor babies.

If it is decided that they are American citizens (which I do not believe to be the case) then I believe the language in the 14th Amendment itself, in Section 5 gives Congress the power to decide:

“Section 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.”

We’ll probably have to wait until we have an anti-amnesty GOP president (the non-GWB version) in order to pass such a thing, however.

exactly. We need to move most of our military bases located in the interior to the border, and have them guard the border.

I can guarantee you not illegals will be strolling throw a US military base.

This is one of the dumbest policies any nation ever tolerated. It’d be no more dumb if there was a law that said, if any non-family member manages to squat on your property for twenty-four hours, you must provide them with all the room, board and other support you provide actual family members for as long as you live.

I’m convinced the entire “anchor baby” provision and its deliberate misinterpretation by the courts is the work of the devil. No country on earth has as much self-loathing and self-hatred codified in its statute books and in its case law as America does. You have to wonder why....

Better yet, move some of our overseas military bases and personnel back home to protect the US. I don't have much faith that there will be border enforcement anytime soon though..just waiting for the US to become the next Brazil.

Heard the same stories from a friend who did his ER program at Harbor General in San Pedro, at the same time. Was not aware of the scam until he told me, and this was in 1985.

I could not imagine then why children born to illegal aliens were somehow granted citizenship.

Still can't now.
