Pennsylvania: House Judiciary Committee to Consider Attack on Concealed Carry on Tuesday, August 10!

Friday, August 06, 2010

Please Contact the Members of the House Judiciary Committee Today!

On Tuesday, August 10, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on legislation that would restrict the recognition of reciprocity agreements for “concealed carry” license holders in Pennsylvania.

House Bill 2536, introduced by State Representative Brian Lentz (D-161), would prohibit a resident of the Commonwealth from carrying a concealed firearm with a license issued from another state.  For example, a Pennsylvanian with a Utah or Florida permit would be prohibited from carrying a firearm for self-defense while in the Keystone State.

This legislation is the first step in an outright attack on your concealed carry rights in Pennsylvania.  HB2536 poses a very real and serious threat to our rights so it is imperative that you make your voice heard.

Please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee IMMEDIATELY and respectfully urge them to oppose HB2536.   Contact information for the committee can be found by clicking
here.

Does Pennsylvania grant by reciprocity the concealed carry privilege to license holders who reside in other states?

The change proposed is that a resident of Penn must have a Penn concealed carry and can not rely on a CCW from another state. This is the current situation in Colorado.

Yes, most states do. Perhaps somewhat differently (I don't know the specifics of each state), you can be a Pa resident, have a conceal carry from another state (and not have one from Pa) and still be legal. Not sure how that is in other states. There are people saying that this is a loophole in the law allowing people that could not get a conceal carry license from this state to conceal carry by getting one from another state. I think this is BS as the Pa carry license law is pretty liberal.

No crimes have been committed by someone under this situation that I'm aware of. This probably won't get out of committee as this particular committee is pretty pro gun rights. I would be okay with this passing though if they passed the castle doctrine. This affects very few people, if any.

These people do a great job of keeping up. reciprocity is a pretty complex problem, but lots of states have been limiting their libtards to a single statewide standard. Too bad these jerks didn’t read AZ’s new law; the one that wasn’t challenged.

I live in PA now but not native born. It’s a weird place. Guns are as unalarming to folks here, as hammers and flashlights and weedwhackers. Nobody thinks you strange to own one or dozens.

But if you want to buy champagne you have to buy it at the government store.

If liquor is too hazardous to be sold by private businesses, it wouldn’t surprise me if somebody tried to make guns a govt monopoly here.

No, you just go across the state line to West Virginia and buy your liquor in Rite Aid or Kroger. :) Shhhhh!

Sounds like this is also a way for PA to collect some license fees. The PA ruling class is a suck hole for any extra change it can turn you upside down and shake you out for.

Thanks for the link. It’s taken awhile for AZ to join Alaska and Vermont, but Wyoming has been an almost twice already. I expect more states will join the club with Wyoming probably next. With the SCOTUS’ McDonald decision, I’m hoping a lot of the current BS will go the way of the poll tax. The question is how long will it take?

It’s all about the unions here. Alcohol used to be expensive and Pennsylvanians would go to neighboring states to buy it. Former Gov. Ridge tried to move toward privatizing but no go. But thanks to his efforts, at least the prices got a lot more competitive. We don’t bother going to NJ anymore. I’m from VA where you can buy it in the grocery stores.

This is a big deal - lots of PA gun owners have their concealed carry in other states that have reciprocity with PA, simply because they do not want Fast Eddie and the rest of the criminal thugs in Harrisburg to have access to their names via a State Police database.

PA gun owners should call their reps and get this killed ASAP.

Also, a public kudos to NRA-ILA for bringing this to our attention. No one has been rougher on the NRA than me (check past posts) because of their BS political positions, so it is nice to see them doing what they are supposed to be doing - looking out for the average gun owner.

Does this mean that my Minnesota permit with a Pennsylvania non-resident permit will not be a valid path for me to carry in Texas while I am temporarily relocated to Oklahoma anymore?
