Whatever else he may be, Webb is a Marine.

And a scummy whack job. Are Marines in the habit of letting other people take the rap for their stupidity?

“Insanity”? But that’s what they want. As far as I’m concerned, they either fit in with the rest of us or stay in the ghettos. There are a millions of good black people in this country that are getting drug down by the scum and the politicians that want racism to continue at every turn. As I’ve said before, I’m tired of it and I’m finished with the BS.

I knew it was there , somewhere.

Such programs should end, Webb concluded, except for “our continuing obligation to assist those African-Americans still in need.”

so, is it right, to do the right thing for the wrong reason ?

This web site has had several threads from different sources in regards to Webb and his diversity essay.

It pains me to see that FR is populated by as many ill-informed and biased clingers as the far left.

All that you know about Webb is that he is a democrat and a liberal. The left is no more monolithic than the right is.

Webb is not a newcomer to the banning of diversity. He has a history of being consistent and for a long time.

It would do you all some good to actually inform yourselves before the glib hip shooting begins.

For my taste, he is dead wrong on about everything political, but he is right on this.

He rather successfully defended the Scotch-Irish population and how that group formed the backbone of the 1845-1999 American culture, certainly including the military, in his books cited in the article, especially Born Fighting.

I assume like most Democrats a huge percentage of his votes come from blacks.

Virginia is about 75% white Christians (Evangelicals, Protestants and Catholics), many of whom are descended from settlers of the 1640s-1840s era (as is most of VA's black population from enslaved workers of that time).

Without further examining voting patterns, I would venture a guess that most of Webb's support has come from his own ethnicity, Scots-Irish, which is prominent in western Virginia, as well as from the default Democrats such as the growing Hispanic and other foreign-born populations, the highly paid government employees and high-tech-ring-around-the-Beltway workers living in the NoVa suburbs of DC.

From a previous post which you were on...

"To: Red in Blue PA What a difference a day makes.... It is my understanding that the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Section 342, subsection (f) (as signed by President Obama on 21 July) states: “Each agency shall take affirmative steps to seek diversity in the workforce of the agency at all levels of the agency in a manner consistent with applicable law. Such steps shall include — (1) recruiting at historically black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, women’s colleges, and colleges that typically serve majority minority populations.” I would interpret that section as mandating that the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve, and all other federal financial regulatory agencies provide recruiting advantages to people with the distinct disadvantage of having been forced to graduate from Sweet Briar, Smith, or Wellesley instead of Salisbury State or UNH. It is also my understanding that the bill was passed by the U.S. Senate 60-39, with Senator Webb voting “Yea”. Given the closeness of the cloture vote and subsequent passage, it is not a stretch to say that he could have single-handedly prevented the enactment of this legislation, had he honestly felt as strongly about this issue as he portends - or should I say pretends - in this curiously-timed article. This is not the Pinochle Dealers of Southwestern Virginia Act: this is perhaps one of the most expansive, pervasive and all-encompassing legislative acts ever enacted into U.S. law. Senator Webb certainly had to have been aware that this passage was included, if we are to believe that he is as truly interested in this area as he argues. I suspect, therefore, that he may have been aware and may have even made his case - which was rejected. In a stunning Mr. Smith Goes to Washington moment (NOT!), he then acquieses to the bill as is, then tail between his legs he casts his decisive vote,,,,and then writes this article to cover his posterior. 25 posted on Friday, July 23, 2010 6:49:43 PM by soxfan "

Fifteen years ago, our family escaped a crime-noise-and-dirt city environment to a suburban economic development area of our state, where large taxpayer investments were supposed to support an entire new town of shopping, neighborhoods, schools and recreation. Our new neighborhood represented the American population closely -- about 13% blacks, a few Asians and "others", and the majority white. The houses and shops were upper middle market. It was quiet, it was safe and you could spend the entire day with your doors open to the breezes. The black families who lived here were mostly professionals, intending for their children to have safe schools and mainstream neighbors.

Within a couple of years, "helpful" Democrats soon cried racism, gerrymandered the school district and announced that our local schools would achieve 85% black population through busing kids from the area ghettoes.

You can guess how rapidly the housing values dropped, the attrition of professional people of both colors began, and the turning of the neighborhoods. Now there is 95% "minority" in the schools, there are knives, guns and police at the lovely new suburban school buildings, the malls have deteriorated and are half-emmpty and/or dangerous, and neighbors are keeping their doors locked all the time.

Do you believe the affirmative action portion of that bill was the lynch pin of the legislation?

Politics is the art of passing what is possible. Get a stand alone bill to remove affirmative measures from all government endeavors and see where his vote comes down.

I commend you for the information regarding the WSRCPA. Whether I agree that is the continental divide in Webb’s political construct is not the point. You came to the discussion with something tangible to be discussed.
Read the posts directly above my original. Do those sound like reasoned and informed comments?

You have brought something to the thread to be hashed over. The remarks by earlier posters were crap and was just written to show how glib they were and to gin up like comments from their sycophants.

I applaud you for presenting something of substance to the conversation. Personally, I don’t know enough to vote yea or nay on the bill. My first instinct is to vote against it and am very much on your side of the issue.

Have you ever gone to Washington?

Our people need to come together. White, Black, Asian, Hispanics and others and tell our politicians that they have gone to far. Things today are getting worse than prior to 1964. The politicians are going to force race wars on us and hate is going to take over. Just look at all, and I mean all, of our major cities. Attitudes today are worse than I’ve ever seen. The authorities in our cities have let things go from bad to worse by caving in to political demands to be fair to all instead of enforcing our laws.

I was raised in Los Angeles at a time that a kid could ride his bike any place, even at night. Parents didn’t worry about them, they were totally safe. Today, parents have to be concerned about even driving their cars in Los Angeles. One time I took my kids to the home where I was raised and my parents got mad that I took my kids in that area of Los Angeles. As a kid, I never worried about Blacks, Asians or anyone else. We were all the same as far as we were concerned. In the service, we worked along side of people of every race. It didn’t matter to us.

Things have to change or we are going to go to war with our own people and it won’t be pretty.

‘I was raised in Los Angeles at a time that a kid could ride his bike any place, even at night.’

I spent my first years in the Borough of the Bronx in the late 1940’s. That was true there at the time. Twenty yhears ago they called the area ‘Fort Apache’. Tell me about it.

This ethnocentric fetish produced MacArthur, Pershing, Patton,George C Scott, Sam Houston,Nathan Bedford Forrest, Ulysses S. Grant, David Hackworth, Andrew Jackson, Ronald Reagan, greater percentage of soldiers in the US military, greater number of military medal awarded, etc.

You need to get informed about what the Scots-Irish has meant to this country.

Redneck speak = If you don’t don’t like my ethnocentric attitude go to hell.

What did your Daddy do during the wars?
