I got my degree in Biology in the 70s. I worked a bit for the Forest Service in short term jobs. Back then it was multiple use, and how do we manage the forests. I eventually drifted into the military. A good friend eventually worked for Montana sharing an office with the USFS. He said they are now all about enviro-wacko nonsense...”Let’s get grizzlies/wolves in this forest next to the city” and how to keep citizens (tourists) out and leave it to nature. And don’t even MENTION timber sales, cattle, etc (I nearly went for a master’s in Range Science).

But even in the 70s, they had already started giving heavy preference to women. I once got a job and was told my hiring was temporary - “If any woman applies between now and your start date, I MUST hire her regardless of qualifications...doesn’t matter if she dropped out of High School.”

That was why I drifted to the Air Force...

Sad but true. Sotomayor and Kagan to USSC with zilch background. But then again same for Omugabe.

Fast-tracking others to head fire and police departments without truly paying their dues out on the streets as used to a major element.

Heather Fong, SFPD Chief, however she has a well-rounded background.

In sharp contrast, Theresa Sparks a trans-gender is now Police Comissioner for the same circus. Past experience includes cab driver and CEO of a sex-toy outfit called 'Good Vibrations' catering to the lesbos, and I think it was Grand Marshall of their 2008 Gay Pride parade.

Years ago when a friend went through the police academy, all the grad males were assigned either the streets or the jail. The group of women? Straight into the detective unit where it was written in stone in the past men had to spend years out on the street to earn this right of passage...years later a male SGT that had a law degree was passed over for promotion in favor of one of those women who had minimal time on the streets.

He used to tell stories of those women when sent out as a street shift supervisor for a short spell for appearances sake often asked their charges questions on procedure out there.

to quote BHO and a myriad of his fellow travellers, “it should be done simply because it’s the right thing to do.” It, of course, being the summary deportation within 48 hours via parachute into the country of origin.

My husband went to the Air Force right out of high school. It was the G.I. Bill that helped finance his college forestry degree. When he left the Forest Service, he went back to school to get his MBA. I worked, and so did he, to finance that.

We have several rancher friends in Wyoming. The wolf re-introduction plan has been a disaster for all the ranchers in Wyoming and Montana. They all practice the “Shoot, Shovel, and Shut Up” approach.

We live on about 45 acres of forested land here in the Black Hills. We are seeing more wolves all the time, and the mountain lions are becoming a big problem. We also do the “S.S.S.” thing.

With your education, I’m sure you have seen the pictures of the Black Hills during Custer’s expedition here during the late 1800’s compared to what it looks like now.

The Black Hills looked nearly naked then. (because of fire, bugs, etc.) The photos of the same areas now, with proper timber management, looks lush, green and heavily forested.....even with the logging and timber thinning. Managed forests are much healthier than natural forestation. Trees are a renewable resourse. Most of the envriros are unaware of that.

One project I worked on (as a data collector) after getting my BS in Biology demonstrated that sheep grazing, done properly in the early spring, stimulates growth and improves the forest. Needless to say, the USFS doesn’t give a rat’s rear about a study like that!

A friend of mine raises sheep & cattle in Utah. After spending $100,000 on the grazing allotment, he was told all the district allotments were being cut 50%.

He replied, “That hurts, but since I’m only using 15% of my permit now, it doesn’t make any immediate change.”

The USFS replied that the across the board cut applied to current use. So his allotment was cut effectively by 93%... It nearly forced him out of business, but he held on and now is looking pretty good.

HOWEVER, the USFS is now planning on kicking him off one of the mountain ranges. Not because of overgrazing, but because they just don’t want grazing on that mountain anymore. Just because. And the $20,000 he spent building water holes at the suggestion of the USFS? It is now just $$$ out of his pocket - his ‘contribution’ to our nation!

As a woman, I can say that I am totally opposed to gender and racial hiring preferences. The one most qualified should get the job....regardless of sex or race.

I’ve seen too many examples of the least qualified getting the job because they were female, black, hispanic, native American, etc.

Political correctness will destroy this wonderful country that we love so much.

Sad. All I can say is that you really don’t want me to get started on my rants about the governmental agencies that destroyed our first business and are now trying to destroy our new business...and so many others in this field.

I’m sorry for your friend in Utah....been there.

It is the same situation in eastern Idaho where I live; there hasn’t been a large timber sale in 25-years...of course after all the fires there isn’t much timber left to harvest.

30-years ago, there were 5-sawmills within 25-miles of town, now there are none. One of the local businesses actually received an approval through record of decision for a small post and pole sale from over-thick lodgepole pine. A environmental group in Helena, Montana apealed the decision and managed to delay the sale for 6-months. We’re talking about a 30-acre sale!!

When I first moved into the town, the Superintendent’s office had 15-employees, maybe 30 including the district office; now there are about 150-employees and that is to manage about 50% less cattle on permits, no logging, and no mining. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

Good note to Vollmer...I also sent a short one:

Dear Ms Vollmer,

Thank you for the good laugh in your July 20 news release about the “displaced foreign travelers” LOL!! Who the heck made that one up?? Are you people nuts??

Please keep up the good work; my government never disappoints when it comes to highlighting the absurd.

Regards,

Displaced Foreign Traveler

One must admit it has a nice Heinlein-esque ring to it ... kinda like his shuttle went into accidental overboost and he landed on the wrong moon. "Gosh, I hate when that happens! Sorry! Could one of you muchachos in the Smokey-The-Bear-Hats help me get this baby turned around ... oh yeah and I'll need the yoomper ca-bless..."

Also, the DPF in question had a rather overly-elegant handle: Gauldry Almonte-Hernandez, indeed. I see three votes for Jerry Brown, not counting absentees.

The irony is knee deep on the Jolly Green Giant.

“Traveler” is a term for that group often called ‘gypsies”.

The term is used to denote a travelling group of thieves.

GoobermentMan was more accurate than he knew when he renamed “wetbacks” (President Eisenhower’s term for ‘em), A.K.A. “illegal immigrants”, “travelers”.
