The Obama-Pelosi Lame Duck Strategy (Union 'card-check,' cap and trade, and so much more)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 07/09/10 | John Fund

Democratic House members are so worried about the fall elections they're leaving Washington on July 30, a full week earlier than normal—and they won't return until mid-September. Members gulped when National Journal's Charlie Cook, the Beltway's leading political handicapper, predicted last month "the House is gone," meaning a GOP takeover. He thinks Democrats will hold the Senate, but with a significantly reduced majority.

The rush to recess gives Democrats little time to pass any major laws. That's why there have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don't want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.

The House can pass all the desperate lame duck legislation they want, but it will die in the Senate with not so much as a whimper.

obama has screwed up more than that... but I understand what you are saying. It also has shown the racism on behalf of the 91% of blacks that voted for him and the 91% that apporove of what he is doing today... the curtain has been pulled back and long-hidden racism has been brought into the light.

Please, Democrats. Do it! Healthcare legislation has killed most of your chances of getting elected and if you pass any legislation against the people you will pay in November and in 2012.

The Democrats will be the minority party for 50 years if they try anything like this.

This is the democrat party version of Scorched Earth, and I hope conservatives and republicans everywhere refer to it as such, and keep doing so. Let Americans see what happens when you let democrats have control of anything.

I think members of Congress who try this lame duck crap should be held PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for their vote even after they leave office.

They will be too busy dodging subpoenas and facing Senate and House investigations, followed by Articles of Impeachment... I know it seems unlikely but there is a growing movement in DC for this to happen. This came from someone that works there.

That's the best news I've had in a long time. Can you please elaborate a bit without endangering anyone?

The American people must demand Special Prosecutors to investigate this obvious political collusion designed to destroy our country. Madoff could use some cell mates to spend his days with while they all rot in their cells together.

And a clever incoming House Speaker might have a chat with our young president, inquiring if the president wants to get ANYTHING done in the next two years.

What a strong Speaker of the House would say is, "Thank you for your opinion Mr. President, but according to the U.S. Constitution, it is the Legislative Branch that has the power to create law. Your responsibilities and powers are clearly enumerated within the same document, and I would highly encourage that you take the time to read it."

Beat me to it, but I`d give them a budget all right, like 1 whole penny. Tell me, if you get REALLY CRAPPY service by a total b*tch of a $#*tty worthless waitress, do you, (a) leave a good tip, (b) no tip, or (c) leave a couple of pennies to make a point? (Like that's all you`re worth)

If you think the Tea Parties are pi$$ed off now, try this Pelosi and Reid.

The Dims will swear in the new WV senator early, but it still will only give them 59. We will need the Senate to stand firm for two months.

The "New START" treaty ratification requires a 2/3 vote. I do not know if that is 2/3rds of 100 seats, or 2/3rds of seated senators. It would be either 66 or 67 depending on the WV seat. Either way, it would need 7 Republicans.

Card Check? No way. It will be filibustered.

Federally mandated universal voter registration system to override state laws? We are a Federal Republic. This had better be filibustered.

A budget resolution to lock in increased agency spending? I can't see how event the Dims would do this.

Pork? Again, pork is there to get you reelected. There is no reason for someone voted out, like Arlen Specter, to be force feeding more pork on Pennsylvania. If anything, I think a lame duck session will not get much pork support from lame duck members.
