Protests of Arizona governor planned in Boston

BOSTON — Immigrant advocates are rallying fellow activists to protest Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer during her scheduled visit this weekend for the National Governors Association meeting in Boston.

The Washington, D.C.-based ANSWER Coalition and others are putting out pamphlets, sending e-mails and making preparations to bring in protesters by bus to express their opposition to Arizona's controversial immigration law, recently signed by Brewer.

The law, scheduled to take effect July 29, requires police to question people about their immigration status while enforcing other laws if there's reason to suspect someone is in the country illegally.

But the law is facing a challenge by the U.S. Justice Department, which filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Phoenix on Tuesday over the constitutionality of the law. The lawsuit argues that Arizona's new measure requiring state and local police to question and possibly arrest illegal immigrants during the enforcement of other laws usurps federal authority.

Sarah Sloan, a national organizer with the ANSWER Coalition, said protesters across the East want to voice their opposition to Brewer's decision to sign the bill and want "to send a clear message" to other governors not to support similar laws.

"The law may become a model for other states," Sloan said. "We don't want to see any further action that would legalize racial profiling anywhere else."

A rally is planned Saturday at Boston's Copley Square, followed by a march to the nearby Sheraton Hotel, where the 102nd annual governors meeting is planned. The protest is one of many expected this weekend for the meeting.

For example, law enforcement officers are expected to protest Gov. Deval Patrick's policy to use civilian flaggers instead of police details at state highway work sites.

ANSWER is a socialist-communist group. You can read their announcement here

I expect a counter-demonstration to show support for Arizona taking action against illegals. If I lived near Boston I'd join the pro-American rally.

ANSWER and the like have college students out of the streets in DC and elsewhere soliciting signatures to try to discredit Arizona’s very justified and constitutional law. They tell the college students they’ve hired to claim the law is one of racial profiling. They brainwash the college students, who, when asked admit, they’ve not read even one word of the law.

I just got an email from Gov. Brewer’s campaign co-chair with an attached email to the people from Gov. Brewer requesting urgent help to fight these lawsuits. I want to give to this cause so badly and sadly I really just don’t have the money right now:( I think I’ll put $50 on my credit card heck it’s not much but I gotta give something. Take back the pair of shoes I bought and already wore to be in a wedding:) Hubby played lotto this week maybe we’ll get lucky.

"The law may become a model for other states," Sloan said. "We don't want to see any further action that would legalize racial profiling anywhere else."

They know it will pave the way for other States to rid themselves of their pestilence and they fear it as it means they are loosing the propaganda war.

The DOJ lawsuit does not even mention profiling. Apparently the communists are depending on misdirection working on adults like a children’s magic show.

Stuuuuuu-pid!

Let me think for a minute. Boston Mass is how far from Arizona about 2000 miles...I am sure Arizona cares about what the liberals in Mass. think....Any state that gave us Kennedy for so many years has got a lot to make up for in the rest of the 57 Obama states...

I know. And the best part about it is the liberals and socialists don’t realize it. The law is NOT being called unconstitutional because of racial profiling but b/c only the federal gov. has the right to act as immigration enforcement (which I’m against b/c I want all laws going back to the states but still).

yes but their point is to turn public opinion against SB1070 not just to irk Gov. Brewer.

Austin, Texas is right up there among the ranks of liberal cesspools. To be fair, it's suburbs (Williamson County, in particular) are sane and Conservative.

TEXAS? REALLY? Shocker. But I know of other conservative states with liberal-socialist pockets. Louisville, KY is full of liberals and socialists as is most of northern Indiana (probably b/c union thugs rule those places.)

The counter-protesters should dress up in bell hop uniforms and carry billy clubs.

The usual suspects. The international socialist organization and bob avakian aren't far behind. I expect the anarchists/G20 protesters to come too.

You would not believe how the liberals in Boston ruined the 4th of July by having this huge glorification of Ted Kennedy before the fireworks started. It was sickening. It lasted about 20 minutes and went on and on about how wonderful he and his brothers were...except the one that got killed in battle...he was never mentioned once.
