Illinois’ Ninth District: For Jews, a Choice Between AIPAC and J Street

For the Jewish community, the election of Barack Obama has presented a major dilemma. The candidate they voted for is not the president they got, especially when it comes to Israel. Even if you could conjure up the ghost of John Foster Dulles, you could not find an administration more hostile to the Jewish state and more unconcerned about the anti-Semitic fallout from pursuing policies based on antipathy to Israel.

Obama’s antagonism toward Israel has been eloquently addressed by such leading Democratic figures as former New York City Mayor Ed Koch and legal scholar Alan Dershowitz. Recently, actor Jon Voigt, in an open letter to Obama, poignantly took him to task for his hostility toward both Israel and Jews.

After I posted comment #18, I remembered that, in 2014, Illinois will hold seven statewide elections. I hope that, if Joel loses, this year, he won’t run, statewide, until after he is a state legislator for at least six years. Attorney General Lisa Madigan was a state senator and Secretary of State Jesse White was a state rep.

He probably would only have a chance if Janice was caught with a live girl or a dead boy.

I agree with Phil that state leg is his best bet to win office in the future.

If Joel loses, who should run for that seat, in 2012? Because of the census, Illinois will probably lose a seat, and the district will be larger. I think that State Rep. Beth Coulson will probably run. If Rep. Schakowsky decides to retire, which Democrat would run? I think that State Sen. Jeffery Schoenberg would run.

I don’t know, you think Coulson would run in 9th knowing she’ll probably lose? I wouldn’t think so.

The rats would have no shortage of candidates. Schoenberg, maybe Sara Feigenholtz who ran in CD 5 special. John Fritchey, ditto. Julie Hamos, Lou Lang.

I don’t think that Coulson thinks that she would lose, in the 9th District. She probably thinks that she lost her primary, this year, because she’s too liberal, for 10th District Republicans. The 9th District Republicans are probably more liberal, so she would at least win the primary.

She could win the primary sure, but she’s be crazy to think she’d have more than an outside chance of winning in November.
