It was requested to APPEAR that Obama is doing something.
It sat in VA for awhile, now it is sitting in the GOM.
I’m sure it will sit for days after the storm is long gone and then they will pretend to start “ramping up,” only after ABSOLUTE HELL starts being raised as to WHY it is sitting idle.

Then, more beauroCRAZY, red tape, EPA horse-$hit, lawsuits to make sure no wildlife get sucked into the ship along with the oil, a 10-day inspection by the Coast Guard to make sure there are fire extinguishers and life jackets, etc. until another storm comes, then...rinse and repeat all over again.

and then the TSA will get involved to make sure those clippers and any other sharp objects are removed to ensure there can be no hostile takeover of the ship by terrorists.

RE: I assume whoever skims the oil can sell it and keep the profits. How much is Obama going to tax the profits from the skimmed oil?

An even more interesting question is this — are these companies who own the oil-skimming ships doing this clean-up out of the goodness of their heart ? Or are they being paid for it ? If so, who pays for A WHALES’ work for instance ? The Taiwanese Government ? The USA ? BP ?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Skimmer vessel plows Gulf over weekend, test results may be in Monday
By the CNN Wire Staff

New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) — Initial results from test runs of a ship billed as the world’s largest oil skimming vessel could come back Monday after a weekend spent plowing the seas atop the undersea gusher in the Gulf of Mexico.

The converted cargo ship A Whale spent the weekend attempting to separate crude oil from seawater in a 25-square-mile area north of the ruptured BP oil well at the heart of the disaster. If the test is successful, the massive vessel could play a key role in efforts to clean up the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

Initial results from tests are expected Monday, Bob Grantham, spokesman for the company that owns the ship, said.

The ship, which swallows water with oil then separates it, can skim about 21 million gallons of oil a day. That’s at least 250 times the amount that modified fishing vessels currently conducting skimming operations have been able to contain, according to Taiwanese company TMT shipping, which owns the vessel.

Meanwhile, BP said Monday that the cost of its response to the Gulf oil disaster now totals approximately $3.12 billion. That includes containment, relief well drilling, grants to Gulf states, claims paid and federal costs, the oil giant said.

A total of about 550 skimming vessels were out in the Gulf on Sunday, according to a spokeswoman for the Unified Command Joint Information Center in Houma, Louisiana. But with oil still pouring into the sea at a rate of tens of thousands of barrels a day, federal authorities closed a new section of the Gulf off Louisiana to fishing on Sunday.
