For some reason, that reminds me of the American (Soviet-controlled) longshoremen's union on the West Coast that was refusing to load shipments of arms bound for England at the beginning of World War II. That was because the English were fighting against the Nazis, and the longshoremen were under orders from Stalin not to help the English. Stalin had signed an alliance with Hitler in 1940, and at that moment and for the next year, the American Left in Hollywood and the unions became sudden peace advocates and bitter critics of Roosevelt for his Lend-Lease support of England against poor Mr. Hitler. They were doing their best to disrupt the U.S. arms industry.
The Left turned in favor of U.S. entry into the war suddenly when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union. First things first.
