WASHINGTON A majority of Americans disapprove of how President Barack Obama has handled the devastating Gulf oil spill though far more blame BP for what people call a sluggish two-month response, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll released Tuesday.
It comes as the president seeks to show more forceful leadership in confronting the nation's worst environmental crisis and convince a skeptical public he's up to the task.
The survey found that 52 percent don't approve of Obama's handling of the spill, a significant increase from last month when a big chunk of Americans withheld judgment. But Obama's overall job performance rating didn't take a hit; it stayed virtually the same at 50 percent. That's consistent with the public's attitudes throughout his young presidency; people generally like him but don't necessarily agree with his policies.

They disapprove of him...period...

An earlier poll had chairman MAO-bama’s disapproval at 79% - even higher than Bush’s 72% on Katrina.
But, but, but, ... I won.
or what.

The people on the oil drum are, in the main, professional oil people, engineers and work in the industry.
They have been carefully following the disaster and this is the first I’ve read over there to bring up h$ll on earth or under the sea.
If Obama’s approval ratings havent dropped below 50% by now, then we might as well just give up...
Somehow, I don’t think AP’s poll is accurate/honest.
What I do know for SURE, is that if this oil spill had happened under GW, he’d have been run out of office by now. Katrina, they called for his head after about 24 hours, but Obama has had this oil spill for 2 months, the media still fawning all over him.
Oh, we’re just wee wee’ed up a little.
Pay it no mind oh messiah and savior!
Did he mention Flag Day??
I have to think that Obama’s handlers think it's better for him to get criticized for using the Teleprompters rather than worry about what he might say without using them.
No, the Oil Drum is the hangout of Peak Oil freaks and self styled green leaning “Energy Experts”, the National Enquire is more credible then them
When will the public quit expecting omnipotence from the government? It all started with the MSM’s desperate desire to pin all misfortune on Republicans; now the people have come to believe that we can be safe from everything, if only the bureaucrats are in charge.
“Inherited”
“Will not stand for...”
“Greedy Wall St....”
“I am the President”
(Obama speech outline)
Says he's having legislation introduced to have the "L" removed.
” Teleprompters again?
I have to think that Obamas handlers think it’s better for him to get criticized for using the Teleprompters rather than worry about what he might say without using them. “
Folks, we have a WINNER!
Don’t worry...by tomorrow, the muddle headed, mind-numbed robots will hang on his every word tonight, and be declaring tomorrow how proud they are of the job he’s doing and isn’t he the most wonderful, caring, environmentally conscientious president to ever walk the planet.
BARF.
Where’s Kanye? ‘Barack Obama hates beaches, the ocean, birds, turtles, seafood, fishermen...’. *crickets*
“Unprecedented”
“Let me be clear”
52% of the people are wise to Jr.?
Yeah, and I’m purple with green polka-dots.
I think more than 52% have this guy’s number.

"Mmmmm mmmmm mmmmmmmmmm"
This alien needs to be returned to sender.
Since nobody has said it, I’ll be first:
The Majority WHO disapprove of Obama on oil spill are RACISTS!!
LOL, why would you place any faith in an AP poll when you KNOW they are in the tank for him just as are the NYT,CBS,NBC,ABC,LAT, etc. You surely don’t believe their polls do you?
If Rasmussen and Gallup have him in the mid 40’s and they poll ONLY likely voters (Rasmussen 100% of the time)then it is obvious if you want to “take the temperature” of voters, these pollsters would be the ones to pay attention to on a regular basis.
And if they disapprove of his handling of this major catastrophe to such a greater extent than they did last month, then how could his approval numbers overall have remained the same?
What cock & bull! Tons of people dislike HIM immensely AND disagree with his politics!!!
I thought Murtha was dead...
well you’re going to love his tax hikes and new regulations tonight. :)
I personally blame the government more for this forgetting in the way of the clean up. They should’ve never turned down any help like they did.
They obviously didn’t ask ME.
I would have given them such a scathing answer it would have skewed and tilted the poll so far into the negative, The Lyin’ King would have been in a parallel universe.
Liz Sidoti, eh? LOL! I’m sure by tomorrow the AyePee will have a poll that tells us how improved Zeroman’s approval numbers are after tonight’s teleprompter reading.
Well this article and the fellows assessment may not be what people want to hear, but it sure seems more truth than all other reports and news we are fed. Bares returning to this link as things progress....at least if the worst occurs as he indicates then it will not be a surprise.
Additionally the comments which follow are as intersting...Thanks for posting!
I don’t really believe the AP poll, but then again, the American public DID vote for Obama, and if folks are that stupid, well...
Trust me, they are that stupid.
Apparently God isn’t too happy, either...lightening just struck a BP oil containment ship, which is now on fire in the GUlf.
Obama’s very own “Black Sea”.
The BBC just reported it was a small fire that was quickly put out.
Shouldn't they just let it burn? That's one way to clean up the oil.
It’s a poll of “Adults,” not “Likely Voters.” Watch Rasmussen, that’s the poll that counts.
I neither like him nor agree with his policies.
Heckuva job, Barry!
Even Jimmy Carter is in awe of Obama’s stint so far. He’s likely off the hook as the worst modern Presidency ever... and that takes some doing.
That's our REAL problem that we don't discuss much: Our population was stupid enough to elect him.
Or “Hey, who unplugged Mr. Teleprompter?!”
Conservatives may have more realistic expectations, but don't like Obama for other reasons which likely skews the poll a bit.
I don't think the spill is the administration's fault, nor do I think they have handled it especially poorly. I don't think there is much they can do, nor would I expect for them to be able to do much considering the circumstances.
I feel Obama is a poor leader and incompetent CIC, but not because of the spill.
Yep, the govt. should have been focused mainly on the clean up and containment of the oil. Instead, they were more focused on law suits and extracting money. I keep saying if I was BP, I would give Obama and this country a big middle finger, and permanently move my operations out of this country and take my money with me. Obama gives billions to Brazil to drill in waters there, but he has suspended all drilling here. Still, most Americans are only upset at Obama because he hasn’t crushed the neck of BP yet. We get what we deserve; we deserve Obama.
Just predicting the MSNBC response :)
gave BP waivers on inspections
purposely ignored the spill for almost two weeks, knowing the extent of the disaster
won't grant the states the waivers they need to protect their shorelines
has been ineffectual and angrily flailing about like a drowning man since admitting the problem.
What's not to like?
Don’t get too upset if his numbers go up a couple of points maybe 5 for a short while. An Oval Office address always does that. He will then fall back to earth again. Remember, even the terrible Carter got a big bump at the beginning of the hostage crisis.
