..let the bank go ahead and repo the thing and pay the cost of recovering it.
Hey, it's the new Obamah Way!
They are irresponsible because they expect the taxpayer to foot the $300,000 bill.
A responsible person would pay for it themselves, or not undertake the venture knowing they can’t afford a rescue.
salvage law at sea is different from “just a tow” on land.
The salvor is entitled to a percentage of the value of the vessel. In this case it is probably MORE than the value of the vessel. I would submit it is cheeper to buy a whole new boat.
If you think they are so great, how much are YOU going to chip in to pay the Australian government for the search and help bring the boat back to the US?
I think it’s fine what they did, risking their daughter’s life for publicity. But when things screw up , the daughter has to be allowed to die, or else what’s the point of the publicity stunt?
Your comment is even more reflective of our times—and even more repulsive—than the Welfare Mama’s was.
the loss is limited to the value of the vessel.
Their”Not wealthy People”Where did they get the money for boat and supplies? It costs money to run an excursion like that.
I know what the article says. They’ve already mooched $300,000 dollars of expense and resources for their little attention-seeking adventure, and now they want the US taxpayers to pay for it. I say toss her back in the water. Feed her to the sharks. Make a tv movie out of that.
I am surprised that the boat was left floating to be a shipping hazard. Did the parents even own Wild Eyes, or did a bank really own it?
Parents making a child skip a year or more off school and risking death in the pursuit of fame, is not instilling capability. If she or her parents are that adventure minded, she could first *be* something - like Steve Foster, and then finance her own trips and rescues.
They borrowed the money and also sold ad sponsorships to whacked-out liberal “green” advertisers.
I agree. They got money and a daughter to risk on a record attempt, they got money enough to help offset the costs of a rescue.
Fossette, not Foster.
Good point! I'm sick of Privatized profit and Socialized loss! They need to pony up something.
I think this discussion is about money.
What are they teaching their kid about money?
>> Her mother MaryAnne said ... Australian rescue authorities should speak to the US Government about recouping the money.
ROFL! And THESE are your prototypical Rugged Freedom Loving Conservatives!
No risk is too great... provided they get the rewards, but the government picks up the tab if they should fail.
Just like the subprime mortgage scammers.
Liberals, with liberal attitudes. Not conservatives at all.
