It’s apparently the only high school in the US that has its own domed stadium.

Then the track was invisible - under a roof.

Actually YOU might not crash very often but small planes crash far more often than large commercial aircraft. Most small plane crashes never make the national news.

On the History channel show “Pawn Stars” they’ve bought at least two previously crashed aircraft. One was a small plane and another was a helicopter. They had both of them rebuilt and sold them as flightworthy aircraft.

Obama should ground all planes until we can determine with certainty that flying can be done safely.

Here’s a Google View of the High School in relation to the airport.

The round circle is the domed stadium.

The winds and altitude probably got him. It’s windy in the White Mountains right now. A lot of pilots passing through either aren’t paying attention or don’t realize they are at 7055 feet when they refuel there.

What type crash was it? It's great that you have absolute confidence in the planes structural integrity. So many pilots don't following crash repairs.

Officials at the scene said the fire is hard to put out due to high winds. CBS 5 News Chief Meteorologist Chris Dunn Winds said winds are gusting in the area more than 33 mph and higher winds are gusting up to 53 mph in areas of northern Arizona.

The Apache County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene but other departments are responding.

Density altitude or an accelerated stall maybe ?

Is that a unicom only field or they have a tower ?

A school complex should never be in the flight path of a small airport. It's not that this is a built-up metropolitan area where another flight path can't be found.

Best to assume its just a crash for now. Small planes do crash very often.

yes they do, and it probably is. But you know what they say about "Ass U Me", don't you?

Best to check it out. Might be the a "work accident" that was intended for a different target.

Unicom

It sits in a bowl, hence the name Round Valley, with some pretty good mountains to the south. The school is east of the airport.

Not just a dome, but a Monolithic Dome (tm) one of 21 some schools in the US.

Unicom only, no tower. School isn’t on upwind from any of the runways. Maybe tried to take off from 11 and tried turning crosswind too slow?

Most of the time the flight path was there before the school.

In order to assure that the base was not closed, a civic group bought up a bunch of houses, and a school, that were right under the approach to Tinker AFB. That was already under way when I got there in '73. School is gone, houses are gone. Streets still show up on the maps and the overhead images.

Thats because there are SO many more GA(general aviation) aircraft than commercial, just FYI. Plus,, commercial A/C can to over the weather and cost about a 1000 times more than most GA aircraft. We are safe,, but can't compete with multi-million dollar aircraft.

Most GA aircraft engines are stuck in 1950 world due to FAA regulations. Most GA aircraft engines are little more than VW's with a prop.
