SLC police chief honored for immigration stand

West Valley City » A public safety organization honored Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank Thursday for his opposition to mandates that would make police officers enforce U.S. immigration law.

Burbank has publicly spoken against Utah lawmakers considering a measure similar to the Arizona law that requires police to verify the legal status of anyone reasonably suspected of being in the country without proper U.S. documentation.

Sen. Luz Robles, D-Salt Lake, said Utah is facing "difficult times" when it comes to the immigration discussion. She admires Burbank's dedication to keep separate public safety and immigration enforcement.

"He's gone beyond the call of duty to advocate for human rights," she said Thursday during an awards dinner at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.

How can public safety be separate from curbing illegal immigration? They are proportionally over-represented when it comes to crime. What about the human rights of U. S. Citizens who should not be expected to continue to pick up the tab for incarcerating, welfare support, education, infrastructure of those who owe allegiance to another country -- and violated our sovereignty by entering America illegally?

What about the effect that their growing numbers has on exacerbating a labor glut that depresses wages across the board?

If that is not a duty of law enforcement, what is?

All the Mormons I know on a personal basis totally oppose amnesty and open borders and want the illegals and their offspring booted out of the USA. But they admit the foolish LDS leadership see them as potential tithe paying members.

As always, follow the money.

Is he elected or appointed by an elected body?

I am sure if the state or city passes a law he is sworn to defend and uphold, he will. If not, he should be fired or voted out of office.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank is concerned he might deny access of illegal alien criminals to their victims, he just want his revenue enhancement officers to get to the victims wallets before the illegal aliens.

After all, illegals will NEVER pay any fines, and Burbank has rigged it so citizens can't avoid paying them.

The new American cop: policing for profit.

They’ll be thinking that right up until the time the Catholic Church builds a huge Cathedral across the street from the Tabernacle so that all those illegals can attend Mass on Sunday. In Spanish.

“”He’s gone beyond the call of duty to advocate for human rights,””

He’s gone beyond the call of duty in NOT enforcing the law!

“The Mormon church is a menace to the country. “

When it comes to immigration, yes the leadership is. Fortunately the vast majority of members don’t agree with them.

Don’t forget...the CATHOLIC leadership and TOO many Baptists have the same myopic, open border view.

Exactly. Who do you think is cleaning all those office and church buildings? They call them “volunteers” and say they “have a calling” but they pay them next to nothing.

Something else to watch. As with Utah’s homosexual non-discrimination law, which the LDS church supported because they were exempted, if/when Utah gets around to passing an immigration reform law, the LDS church will be exempt from any penalty for non-compliance.

“Our goal is public safety and public safety alone,” he said. ‘

Lying bastard.

Public safety INVOLVES making sure ANYONE coming here is not a terrorist or criminal and the only way to do that is by ENFORCING Immigration Laws.

Americans had better wake up and start fighting these beaurocrats and politicians ANY WAY THEY CAN or they will wake up one day and find they have NO country to defend.

I have a number of good friends who are LDS, some better than others, but any of them could ask for anything I own (tools-guns-cash etc) and I would help load it in their ride, knowing it would come back in better shape than when it left.

And they all say the "Church" is crazy to want Amnesty/Open Borders.

But there are strict rules about expressing thoughts which are 'displeasing' to the Authorities .... can even get them kicked out of the club, so to speak.

Sounds like you have a pretty solid understanding of the “rules” of the club. You’ve summed it up very well.

...Burbank's dedication to keep separate public safety and immigration enforcement

LOL, how can you separate PUBLIC SAFETY from enforcing the laws against illegal invading criminal alien anti-American colonists coming to the USA without permission??

The jails are filled with these criminals, plus the amount of cities with drug cartels running the drug business in the US is over 200.

It's simply a federal law, which other ones won't the enforce? The Mann act etc etc?

Chief Chris Burbank might have vested interests. His statement does raise red flags. Somebody should check on his lifestyle and bank account. Drug deals have corrupted many a public official.
