Democrats Are Skipping Town Halls to Avoid Voter Rage
New York Times ^ | June 7, 2010 | Jeff Zeleny

BEL AIR, Md. — The reception that Representative Frank Kratovil Jr., a Democrat, received here one night last week as he faced a small group of constituents was far more pleasant than his encounters during a Congressional recess last summer.

Then, he was hanged in effigy by protesters. This time, a round of applause was followed by a glass of chilled wine, a plate of crackers and crudités as he mingled with an invitation-only audience at the Point Breeze Credit Union, a vastly different scene than last year’s wide-open televised free-for-alls.

The sentiment that fueled the rage during those Congressional forums is still alive in the electorate. But the opportunities for voters to openly express their displeasure, or angrily vent as video cameras roll, have been harder to come by in this election year.

If the time-honored tradition of the political meeting is not quite dead, it seems to be teetering closer to extinction. Of the 255 Democrats who make up the majority in the House, only a handful held town-hall-style forums as legislators spent last week at home in their districts.

It was no scheduling accident.

With images of overheated, finger-waving crowds still seared into their minds from the discontent of last August, many Democrats heeded the advice of party leaders and tried to avoid unscripted question-and-answer sessions. The recommendations were clear: hold events in controlled settings — a bank or credit union, for example — or tour local businesses or participate in community service projects.

And to reach thousands of constituents at a time, without the worry of being snared in an angry confrontation with voters, more lawmakers are also taking part in a fast-growing trend: the telephone town meeting, where chances are remote that a testy exchange will wind up on YouTube.

only prescreened questions were allowed

They do this a lot. The solution is to have a question a brainwashed liberal would ask to get by the screener then, once on the air live, unleash the fury.

This is a brilliant strategy. I’m sure frustrating voters’ ability to communicate with their representatives will calm us all right down. /s

In the 1700’s, tar and feathering was very popular. I wonder why that time honored practice died out?

reiterates gun confiscation as a most important dynamic in restoring civil peace, and suspends the Constitution until such time as order has been restored.

If he does that, he had better be prepared to oversee CWII during his last years.

Well, it took 200 years, but we have reverted right back to what we fought to escape.

Not “we” but the federal government.

Let’s be “perfectly clear” here.

We fought to rid ourselves of a government that is clearly "destructive to these ends" i.e. the will of the People and the pursuit of our Rights as inalienable.

I believe the exact words are " long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism."

A government that is in direct opposition of 70% of the entire adult population is a government known as Dictatorship.

A government that hides from it's population behind a massive police force in a tiny fortress of a District separate from the rest of the nation and issues oppressive edicts and calls them "laws" is a government known as Dictatorship.

A government that destroys the economic lifeblood of a nation to attempt a complete reversal of the founding intent of that nation in opposition of the core of that nation, it's Constitution, is a government known as Dictatorship.

The founders of this nation lived in the oppression of this exact nature were also "perfectly clear" in what we are instructed to do.

The exact words are "it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."

"It is their duty."

"That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it,"

ABOLISH.

The current communist regime occupying the offices of the federal government have been indoctrinated all of their lives that we, the People, real American Citizens, have no say and should be ignored so they may continue to

"erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance."

"combine with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation"

"For imposing taxes on us without our consent"

"suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us "

" excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers"

"our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury"

The exact words of the founders are "it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."

"It is their duty."

The Founders wrote that because they knew that any government will eventually corrupt itself just has the current one has.

The way I see this the nation has two chances of surviving without a total scorched earth bloodbath. Mid-term elections and 2012 elections.

If the communists prevail in those elections they will push the economy right into total collapse, everything will stop, the country will go into full blown war and there will not be enough rope in Lowe's and Home Depot combined to keep up with the hanging of all the communists.

They didn't listen to the people about ObamaCare.

Now, they just want to make believe that they never knew what was going on.

Perfectly normal behavior for an oligarchy though.

Jeff Ward had a caller on today who was there at the gun-groceries trade and said there were more citizens snapping up guns from turner-iners than those going inside to trade for coupons!

HA! I'd have done the same thing. Well, I missed Jeff's show yesterday. I was outside gardening and picking tomatoes & other veggies. Took a nap later, so I missed the entire show.
