The Ump called it as he saw it in the split-second after the foot hit the bag. Umps don’t always see it exactly the way it happened. But the umps are part of the game.

Selig, for once,is right. Until replay is in the rulebook for that situation, too bad. Although the ump who made the dumbass call could have asked for help right there and the crew chief could have overruled right there on the spot.
Yup, agree about Selig. And baseball really does need to get some kind of officiating replay system set up. I can't blame the ump, he made his call in real-time, not with the benefit of zoomed, slow-motion video. And unless another ump had a better view, there was no reason to overrule.
Kudos to Gallaraga, not only for throwing a perfect game, but for showing a lot of grace and class after the ump took it away from him.

...the ump who made the dumbass call could have asked for help... This clearly a situation where the first base ump alone makes the call, for better or for worse. Just about impossible for any of the other three to overrule him since they are too far away to get as good a view.
And would someone tell Jenny to shut her yap. Lefty politicians like her and the Obama White House always seem to stick their noses into matters that are none of their business.

I agree with every word you have written. 1000% correct.

its not quite the same thing, is it.

Before replay was used for home runs, they conferred on those. Do I have any incidents that were recorded ? No.
In the rulebook there is a provision for umpire conferences for two different rulings on one play

Conferences on rules interpretations, yes. But not on base judgement calls regarding out or safe...........

I agree wit you. My family is getting back together next month after several months of being separated Thanks to Jenny blowing me away. When we make the move next month, our cars and if possible the moving van will have signs on the back. “Another Michigan family blown away, thanks Jenny.”
I’ve been blessed with a great job and we actually sold our house in Michigan.

Remember George Brett and the pine tar HR? The league stepped-in after the game and changed the call. That was a rules interpretation, not a judgment call. Teams may protest a perceived misinterpretation of the rules, but not a judgment call such as Jim Joyce's blown call.

Even so, as I said before, errors are retroactively turned into hits, and hits into errors. That's a judgment call.
Heck, just recently Hack Wilson was given a 161st RBI for his record season, decades after the fact.
The League absolutely can fix this.

“Symbolism over substance....”
I am not disagreeing with you, but I am really getting the chills that the “symbolism” in this case reeks for fascism. The issuing of a decree just sounds tyrannical....
