MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has issued a proclamation that says Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga pitched a perfect game against Cleveland, despite an umpire's blown call.

Bud Selig is the one with horsepower here.
I hereby declare Malibu Jenny to be the “Worst Michigan Governor Ever”.
Symbolism over substance....
Brilliant move by the smartest Canadian in the US :)
Mark Steyn is the Governor of Michigan?
Isn’t that sweet? Selig, for once,is right. Until replay is in the rulebook for that situation, too bad. Although the ump who made the dumbass call could have asked for help right there and the crew chief could have overruled right there on the spot.
Governor should butt out.
The Commish was supposed to make a decision about the call.
...thy name is Democrat.
“Although the ump who made the dumbass call...”
It wasn’t as easy a call as some have made it out to be. At least he admitted he was wrong...
The toughest thing people have to learn in life, is that things are not always fair. Galarraga accepted the situation. His manager did. The team did.
This governor should grow up. Even most fifteen year old kids know this lesson.
I’m sorry Galarraga got cheated out of this accomplishment, but his name well forever be ensconced in baseball lore because of it. He will be a household name long after he is dead.
You and I should be so lucky.
He knew he blew it. He could have asked for help.

Glad the problems in Michigan are so solved the Governor can afford the time to screw around with crap like this.
Galarraga deserves a “*” by his name...it is a perfect game as far as I’m concerned. It’s simply another sign the game has gone down a notch...with second-class umps now working for the major leagues.
I watched the game and it was actually pretty routine. Even the TV announcer doing the play by play called him out and then had to reverse his call to match the umpire.
I’m sure a lot of close plays at the plate are “miscalled”. The game would have been incontestably perfect if the pitcher had thrown a final pitch that could not have been hit. Both men acted with class.
Granholm is grandstanding, and could better spend her time on reducing Michigan’s unemployment rate.
I wish I could get her to spend 100% of her time on crap like this. She would have less time to screw over every Michigan taxpayer.
Our society has spent a lot of time and effort making things *fair*. It used to be about fairness of opportunity; it's now about fairness of outcome. What Governor Grandstand is doing here will appeal to that mentality, and be seen as a meaningful act.
I wish, that would be sweet
What problems? They have the populace right where they want them-underemployed, undereducated, and under their control. They have plenty of time for important work like this.
Huh? Do you really know baseball? How the heck do you ask for help????? He didn't realize he blew it until watching the replay himself.....
The call at the base must be instantaneous, you don't check with the "other guys" in order to reach a concensus.......The only person who asks for help is the plate umpire who immediately looks to the first base umpire to determine whether a checked swing was a strike..........
If she really gets into this, maybe she’ll award the Pistons the NBA title while she’s at it
Umps confer over calls all the time.
Typical Lib - Oh we can’t hurt his self esteem, nobody loses we are all winners.
Bullsh!t. Galarraga was stand up man. He didn’t whine, bitch and moan. He accepted Umpire Joyce’s apology and showed true character. Unfortunately the peepants libs won’t learn anything from this.
Life isn’t fair, deal with it. My wife is dying from a cranial tumor. It sucks but she never complains. She is a true inspiration to everyone she meets.
BTW Joyce is a stand up guy too!
She could award the unemployed jobs. I sure could use one.
Guess I’ll have to be happy by being “Blown Away”, from the job market.
Remember George Brett and the pine tar HR? The league stepped-in after the game and changed the call. They have done it many times.
Every day, prior games are revised; errors are turned into hit retroactively, hits into errors, etc. It happens ALL THE TIME.
There is absolutely NO reason MLB can't correct this clear error and give him his perfect game, none. They have made changes before, and as I said, are revising finished games all of the time.
Selig is spineless. Change the damn call and spare this umpire and give the kid his DESERVED chunk of history.
Shhhhh! Don't say that, just in case she wants to run for POTUS!
Why doesn’t the Governor of Ohio just declare “no he didn’t.”
In a related story, dfwgator awarded the Florida Gators the 2010 BCS Football Championship.
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Not on safe or out base calls...
MI Gov., perfect dunce.
He will be soon forgotten. How many people know the name of the pitcher who threw 13 perfect innings in a game, only to lose 1-0?
Almost doesn’t count, except in horseshoes and hand grenades

If I was Commissioner I would have made a rule exception due to extraordinary circumstances and made sure Galarraga got his perfect game recognized. Major League baseball blew it. Perfect games are so rare that an exception is in order
Great news for Galarraga!! At contract time he’ll sure be in good shape using Granholms “gift” as a negotiating tool.
All the time? Cite me 5 recorded examples where a base umpire declaring the baserunner out or safe was overruled by a "concensus" of the other umpires........

Harvey Hadixx. I knew that one I was little but had to use google to refresh my memory
25% unemployment and she is worried about a baseball game. gotta love the libtards priorities!!!
No kidding. She and the other idiots need to stay the hell out of it.
The Ump called it as he saw it in the split-second after the foot hit the bag. Umps don’t always see it exactly the way it happened. But the umps are part of the game.
This clearly a situation where the first base ump alone makes the call, for better or for worse. Just about impossible for any of the other three to overrule him since they are too far away to get as good a view.
And would someone tell Jenny to shut her yap. Lefty politicians like her and the Obama White House always seem to stick their noses into matters that are none of their business.
I agree with every word you have written. 1000% correct.
I’m so very sorry to hear about your wife. God bless you both.
its not quite the same thing, is it.
Before replay was used for home runs, they conferred on those. Do I have any incidents that were recorded ? No.
In the rulebook there is a provision for umpire conferences for two different rulings on one play
we all sure wish he was.
Thank you for your kind words. I will pass them along.
Sincerely
