Bay: Anyone else have a sinking feeling about North Korea?

Austin Bay, CREATORS SYNDICATE

In a 1945 essay titled "Funny, But Not Vulgar," George Orwell argued that "A thing is funny when ... it upsets the established order." Toward the end of the essay, Orwell added: "To be funny, indeed, you have got to be serious."

Kim can't handle real sunshine — the truth. In the 60 years since the Korean War began, South Korea has decisively defeated North Korea in the social and economic spheres. Only in military terms, in the base destructive power of Pyongyang's large armies and nascent nuclear weapons program, does the North challenge the South. War is all Kim has.

It's time to end the Korean War and that means ending the Kim regime, not placating it. That's the message to send Pyongyang.

Until South Korea and the Obama administration face that fact, the wicked joke is on us

Another opportunity that mysteriously disappeared under the Bush regime. There was a window, small and shortlived to be sure, through which he could have brought this dog to heel.

He was too busy worrying about moslems being treated impolitely in this country to take care of business. And eight years passed, wasted, just like that.

I think the sinking is more likely to be South Korea with numb nuts as our President.

When I hear a NEO has been directed (Noncombatant Evacuation Order) for US dependents, I know the fur fight is about to start.

I believe the NoKo govt is collapsing from within. It’s core is now weaken d and is growing more chaotic, as it fractionalizes. Those at the center of power know they can trust no one. As do their subordinates.

And no matter how much China props it up, the collapse is coming...the supporting beams are now all eaten through with termites.

I`d tell China that since they created that chattering monkey of a regime leader, they can muzzle him, or we`ll declare ALL of our debt to them fully null and void, in other words; You can pound sand on every penny we owe you! And we also embargo ALL goods made in China.

Bush has a real window of opportunity after the reelection and before subsequent mid-term election. However, he spent it by going back to his centrist root, the way he governed as Texas governor. So he entertained Sunshine Condi and Kim Jong-Hill, giving ears to their ludicrous views.

They unfroze N. Korea's overseas bank account which was doing real damage without any shooting. Then came the pitiful attempt at cover-up when Israel bombed Syrian nuclear facility(reactor) built according to a N. Korean spec by N. Korean crews.

I regret that I did not write down names of those at FR who left angry remarks for questioning the 'questionable' coverup of Syria's N. Korean nuclear reactor.

I’m not liking this one bit. My son’s on a fast attach sub in the Sea of Japan, subject to orders from that idiot in Washington and his collection of morons.

N. Korea has woefully inadequate anti-submarine capability. It is in marked contrast to their sub capability to conduct covert asymmetrical warfare. Navy ships can be in danger of getting attacked by them, but attack subs are not.

Your son's sub will sink every ship and submarine of theirs before they can locate it.

Maybe starting a war will get the North Koreans minds off the fact many of them are starving to death.

Agreed. The only thing that worries me is if they send out ships to provoke a close engagement, and one of them is carrying a nuke. These are not sane people.
