I believe that Oregon cannot raise taxes without the vote of the people. Since there are so many ex-Californians living there, they will most likely agree to higher taxes.

Why not? Oregon is full of dems, and if there's one thing that Geithner, Daschel and Rangel have taught us, it's that dems don't pay taxes anyway

They already did, in Feb. Measures 66 and 67 were supposed to be the fix.... it was the largest tax hike in the history of the state.

It KILLED state revenues as well as any hope of economic recovery here.

Freaking moronic idiots...

Actually the constitutional requirement in Oregon is that tax and fee increases require a supermajority in the legislature. In last year's session legislative Democrats (and Republicans) approved two major business tax increases, applying mainly to gross receipts (as opposed to profits).

Now, we have relatively easy access to referendum here and those two legislative actions were referred to the voters with a lot of help and guidance from one of my favorite groups, Americans For Prosperity.

Since there are so many ex-Californians living there, they will most likely agree to higher taxes.

And late last year those ill informed voters did exactly that. And it did bring forth, almost immediately, the expected exodus of many small businesses from the state. Those on the thin edge of profitability, seeing new taxes taking them into the red, have absolutely NO REASON to remain in Oregon, and they are leaving.
