I dare say you are right about what you say, but I maintain what has been “done to” those folks (or any of us) is not an excuse for such attitudes.
The economy is lousy. We never recovered from the devastation of the Northwest Forest Plan on our timber communities. They have systematically gone after the Upper Basin farmers, the suction dredge miners, the mid-basin farmers, the proposed geothermal plant, the proposed cogeneration facility, the proposed water bottling plant and the four dams. They are proposing two National monuments. Mercy medical just layed off 50 people, Coca Cola is closing its water bottling plant and our County government is laying off about 50 people. Unemployment was at 18.5% before all the layoffs. There are no jobs here.

You are with the good guys versus the economic terrorists hiding under their green flags.
Hell, the last I heard the Green Economic Terrorists were preventing sales of trees that had died due to forest fires and other causes.
Because the legislature is so far unwilling to reduce state salaries, and benefits; including gold-plated retirement benefits and pensions.
The Green Economic Terrorists want no industries, ranches, farms and anyone making an honest living from the land they own in every county in Californicator and Oregone from the ocean to Nevada.
This Green Economic Terrorism has been going on since the spotted owl bs, and they continue to add species to the protected list.
One of the biggest phoney protected species is the Coho/Silver Salmon in the Klamath rivers. The so called protected species came from transplants from Oregone in the early 1900s.
The Coho can’t survive in rivers that can go dry during our normal summers with no rain.
“I have more in common with the rednecks and loggers in Yreka and Northern California than I do with the granola crunching Gaia worshippers in the Tri-County Metro area up North that have destroyed our state.”
Precisely!
Now, the dirt worshipers continue to argue the runs are in decline, saying those fish which descend from a lineage once hatchery raised don't count. A few years ago Judge Hogan ruled a species is a species and when in native habitat there is no distinction. It seemed to me a good ruling at the time but not much has changed as a result.
The ec0-movement's aim has always been to eliminate enterprise and profit in the realm, turning power and control over natural resources to the government. But at the top of every cause we find one or more Naked Emperors making themselves very wealthy seeing to it the money spent to "save the planet" flows through their own pockets.
Nothing has been done to almost none of "those folks" in their lifetimes. They have lapsed into the sweet sleep of those living off the GovernMental theivery of those who do produce profits, industry and wealth by getting off their dead differentials to acheive and to aspire just a little bit!!!
It's rotting America's soul from the inside out!!!
From the frying pan, directly into the fire!!!
Now with regard to the attitudes, the seeming lack of ambition here in the basin I hear ya. But it still irks me, because in the business I'm in folks are not that way even in Eugene (and they are having a tough time up there too).
