Obama to Suspend Arctic Drilling
The New York Times ^ | May 27, 2010 | Anahad O'Connor

Posted on 05/27/2010 3:04:48 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

President Obama will announce on Thursday a suspension of all applications for offshore oil drilling in the Arctic through the remainder of the year, an Alaska senator said late Wednesday.

The decision essentially extends an informal moratorium that Mr. Obama had set shortly after the BP accident on April 20 that led to the spewing of millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The new restrictions would suspend new offshore drilling permits in the Gulf of Mexico and off the North Slope Alaska until the cause of the accident is determined and stricter safety and environmental safeguards are imposed.

One major oil company, Shell Oil, had been hoping to begin a controversial exploratory drilling project this summer in the Arctic Ocean, which the new restrictions would put on hold.

Senator Mark Begich, Democrat of Alaska and a staunch supporter of drilling in the Arctic, said he was informed of the new restrictions by the Interior Department. Sen. Begich said he was frustrated because the decision “will cause more delays and higher costs for domestic oil and gas production to meet the nation’s energy needs.”

“The Gulf of Mexico tragedy has highlighted the need for much stronger oversight and accountability of oil companies working offshore, but Shell has updated its plans at the administration’s request and made significant investments to address the concerns raised by the Gulf spill,” Senator Begich said in a statement. “They make an effective case that we can safely explore for oil and gas this summer in the Arctic.”(continued)

Words... words... words... they escape me again.

Data point #2,381,947 that proves that Baraq Hussein Obama is committing treason.

Screw Obama, we don’t need no stinkin fake President telling us what to do in Alaska.

The day he can prove he has the legal powers to sit in the Whitehouse as POTUS will be when Alaska stops drilling.

The pipeline had to shutdown temporarily, what if a few maintenance glitches were to shut it down for a few weeks?

Obama: Day for 'partnership' passed

“You don’t even have to meet me halfway. I’ll bring most Democrats on these issues. I’m just looking for eight or 10 of you,” 0bama said.

The problem is some of those REPUBLICANS will be RINOs. As much as I'd like to believe a simple overturn of the House or Senate would neuter this regime, 0bama is correct in his statement. IF the new class going to Washington DC isn't 'conservative' they won't hold the republican platform line.

The war against America by the Kenyan Marxist continues unabated. The question here is, what will be left of this country by the time we kick this evil usurper out of office in 2012?

Obamass never wastes a good crisis. He’s going to play this up when he starts pushing his Cap and Steal agenda. We have to stop this bastard in November.

If I were the oil companies I would immediately suspend ALL domestic drilling and pumping. Period. Shut it down overnight. Then sit back and wait until Congress comes, tail between their legs, begging for relief from constituents who are suddenly having to bear the cost of no domestic oil supply.

I would continue to pay the workers so that my employees weren't forced to suffer for the stupidity of the liberals and environmental. Although it would be a doubly valuable lesson for the libs and environuts to have the unemployment rate and compensation take the hit.

And while I had the public’s undivided attention because their sitting in gas lines for hours I would really hit the point that this oil spill in the Gulf has nothing to do with the kind of drilling that's been done for decades in America, that it's the result of oil companies being forced to go go farther offshore and farther down than is necessary.

It's time we put an end to the BS that the libs and environuts have put us through for decades. The best way is to make it as obvious and painful as possible to the most number of citizens that we have become hostage to these groups and we're paying for it by funding the enemies of our way of life, having to worry year after year if and when they will decide to use oil as a weapon. Let's use it on ourselves first. At least then we have control of it.

re: Every other country that drills in the Gulf is just continuing on drilling happily

And they are doing it in the more shallow water, nearer the coast lines and with far less technical know-how than we are force to do it.

Obama wants domestic oil production to shut down, the people that paid to have him in office want world oil domination through higher oil prices.

The middle east has a time frame of how much oil is left, they want to sell it off at inflated prices before its gone.

Having rumors and facts of more oil being found in the Gulf and up in Alaska does NOT give Saudi Arabia a warm fuzzy feeling.

And naturally the higher cost of foreign oil also means more taxation, more taxes going to the Federal government.

re: standing between the oil companies and the pitchforks

Maybe it's my advancing age, or perhaps I'm just mentally defective, but I consider the oil companies one of our greatest assets in today's energy-driven world! We pay less, a lot less, than almost anyone else in the world and we have what seems to be an endless supply of gas, anytime and anywhere in the US. Sure, it costs more than we want to pay, but do without it for a few weeks or a month, and people will consider even the $4/gal price a real bargain.

It's impossible to overstate the luxury we have as Americans to be able to pull into a gas station just about anywhere, anytime and FILL a 30 or 40 gallon tank with quality fuel.

Much of what we see as the evil of the oil companies is the result of five plus decades of active obstruction by the libs and environmentalists who are much more desirous of destroying our way of life than preventing oil spills.

I knew it! Never let a crisis go to waste! He is using the Gulf Disaster to further his OWN agenda! Aaargh!!

The DAY of the explosion, the Navy and Coast Guard SHOULD have been out there with the Army Corps of Engineers as well as any other expert who can help.

But of course, the ONE was too busy with more important things like playing Golf, going on vacation, insulting Israel, raising money for Babs Boxer, and calling the good people of Arizona Nazis.

I am even of the opinion that he may have been complicit in the actual EXPLOSION, so as to emphasize his insane economic and energy policies.

A “Reichstag Fire” if you will.

Even if he didn’t CAUSE the actual problem, it will be used to ridicule the Conservative agenda to drill for domestic oil.

I am beside myself over this.

This is why I have washed my hands of liberals and can’t cope with them anymore. They gave us this because they hated President Bush so much and were blinded by their hatred so completely that they were willing to DESTROY AMERICA.

It’s not funny anymore.

Believe me when I tell you, it's not that I'm a fan of the modern day Republican Party as I stated in my post. The problem is short of a full-on revolution by the citizenry of this country (which is hardly likely to happen..) what other viable alternative is there?

If you know one, I'd darn sure like to hear it. (Really, I would!)

I tend to agree with you about the oil industry. My comment was more of a comment on what Obama is trying to do.

He’s pointing fingers at BP while shirking his own responsibility. He wants this to inflict the greatest amount of harm to the greatest number of people for as long as possible.

Its what a community organizer does. They pour gasoline on the fire, block the firefighters from doing their jobs, and blame banks, corporations and landlords for the lost homes.
