Senate Republicans criticize the president's effort to seek cooperation on key issues.
President Obama paid a rare visit Tuesday to Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill, seeking their support on energy, immigration and other top-priority measures. But he hit a buzz saw of criticism and resentment that bodes poorly for the remainder of his legislative agenda.
In the tense closed-door meeting, Obama told Senate Republicans he did not want legislative business to grind to a halt just because an election was approaching, and asked for their cooperation on ratifying the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, confirming Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court and passing legislation to improve the economy.
But at least one angry Republican accused Obama of treating members of the opposition like political props, saying the president's bipartisan words have repeatedly been followed by partisan deeds on such issues as regulation of Wall Street, healthcare and economic stimulus.
"I told him I thought there was a degree of audacity in him showing up today," said Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who accused the administration of sabotaging efforts to write a bipartisan Wall Street bill. "I asked him how he was able to reconcile that duplicity."
Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) said Obama's response to the GOP criticism showed he was so "thin-skinned" that he should "take a Valium" before he comes to talk to Republicans again.
As Obama left the Capitol, he told reporters, "It was a good and frank exchange." Later, White House spokesman Bill Burton said the session was "civil in tone" and that Republican accounts of the meeting were overblown.
But the byplay underscored the depth of the suspicions that Obama faces even as he presses for legislation on which he dearly needs Republican support a bill now before the Senate to provide more funding for the war...

Never trust this usurper.
Don’t meet with him to give him any validity.
And work like hell to oppose everything he proposes.
Got that GOP?
God Bless you, Senator Corker!!! Now that’s speaking truth to power.
They should have told him to shove it up his ass.
You’d think by the headline they asked him to produce his real birth certificate or real social security number or something like that. What’s up with the 1890s SSN, Barry?
So, he tells them everything will be fine, just as long as they do whatever he instructs them to do. And when they object, he gets mad, and the press gets mad.
Oh, those partisan Republicans! Why can’t we all just get along? (My way, of course.)
Barry finally ended the tense meeting because he had to urgently go on vacation and needed to get one more round of golf in before packing.
After he shoved a s**t sandwich down the throats of the American people the lame-o repubs better refuse to cooperate on ANYTHING if they don’t want to end up like soon-to-be-ex-Senator Bennett.
The problem comes in when the Demoscum, unable to pass communist legislation on its own merits (because it lacks any whatsoever,) despicably and disingenuously contain it in a completely unrelated, must-pass military funding bill. They did this with the thought-crimes legislation, and they will do it again and again. It's agonizing for most Republicans to face the choice of not funding our troops or letting leftist bilge pass through. A few cannot bear the thought of letting our military down; enough of them to let it pass.
Progress.... I like it...

Do we need to read that pet absorbant any further? Say it ain't so!
Audacious, duplicitous, thin-skinned. Yep, that’s Obama.
One of the Senators commented that he should have took a valium before attending the meeting ,he was combative ,defensive and very thin skinned..
Go Pat!
Thin-skinned is right. More like a veneer.
It’s his way of “being tough”, going to the community center to spar with the recalcitrants who don’t like the new bus schedule. He probably enjoyed some success with the technique in the wards.
I say yeah, meet him whenever and wherever; he’ll wear down first. It gives an opportunity for the Cantors to face “Goliath”.
so they are supposed to grovel before this Marxist and complete nincompoop?
Yeah that Corker is a regular George Patton, isn't he. Confront a lying psychopathic traitor by asking him a polite question.
We are so screwed.
