Police officer slain as mayor embarrasses himself and city
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 21, 2010 | John Kass

In anti-handgun Chicago, criminals aren't bothered by Mayor Richard Daley's handgun ban. They haven't been bothered for years.

And so another Chicago police officer was shot to death. But it wasn't during a traffic stop or some hunt through an alley after a drug sting.

Thomas Wortham IV, 30, was a victim of a robbery, shot down outside his boyhood home in the staunchly middle-class Chatham neighborhood, his body dragged 100 feet or so by the getaway car.

The thugs were trying to steal his motorcycle, a gift to himself upon his return from a second tour of duty in Iraq as a first lieutenant in the Army National Guard.

The mayor is indirectly responsible for this man’s death.

Maybe I missed it.
Was the victim armed?
If not, how is it this officer is not carrying while off duty?
Is it prohibited by city policy?
If not it’s not the Mayor’s fault he wasn’t armed.

A reporter asked the obvious question: Given the numbers of shootings in the city, isn't the handgun ban ineffective

[break]

Confronted with a logical question, here's what the mayor did: He picked up a rifle from the prop table of guns, raised it and began to babble.

"It's been very effective," said Daley of the handgun ban. "If I put this up your butt, you'll find out how effective it is. Let me put a round up your, you know."

Let me get this straight. The MAYOR of a major U.S. city gave THAT as his answer to a question regarding one of his policies?

It is CLEAR to me that at least 51% of the people in Chicago (whatever percent voted for him) are SERIOUSLY mentally ill. They have elected a psychopath as thehir mayor.

I had to go look for myself. I’m thinking there’s no WAY the mayor of Chicago would say something like that.... WRONG!

The guy is NUTS!

“The mayor of Chicago then went on to say if the justices were attacked by thugs with guns, they’d see things his way.

“Maybe they’ll see the light of day,” Daley said. “Maybe one of them will have an incident, and they’ll change their mind overnight, going to and from work.”

In this era I need to ask if he was a registered Democrart to determind how I feel about this incident. Just the way it is now.

Now about 70 years old, Daley has always been a spoiled little rich kid who has never been more than twenty feet from a Chicago Police officer’s or bodyguard’s gun his entire life.

A police officer(Officer Wortham) had to die to satisfy Daley’s PC urges. It used to be a lot different in Chicago and it was the gangs that were the threatened ones, not the citizenry.

Here is some real information on the case.

The victims Dad, a retired police officer w/gun, returns
fire hitting two.

Where Daly enters into THIS case is a mystery to me. Surely the author could find a better case in point. The victims here were well armed or should have been with no restrictions from Daly policy.

Daley’s Comment
A new low, even for a scumbag like Shortshanks. The reporter asking this question ought to be ashamed. Shortshanks though, has no sense of shame. Using an Officer’s death to further a political agenda?

* Asked whether Wortham’s death provides a boost for the city’s battle for what he calls “commonsense gun laws,” the mayor said: “Oh, I hope so. . . . Here’s a young man [who] served twice in Iraq. Father’s a police officer, an unbelievable police officer. You better believe it. It does add [momentum], and it should. It should wake up America.”

Let’s just point out that even with the handgun ban in effect, Chicago’s murder rate has remained higher than the national average for years and is climbing again.

And it would be pretty safe to assume that the gun that killed Officer Wortham IV wasn’t legally purchased, wouldn’t have been registered even if it was, and the person carrying it wouldn’t have had either an FOID card or any so-called “liability” insurance.

And finally, let’s remind everyone that the only two legal and registered handguns on the scene were the handguns that provided retired Sgt. Wortham a small measure of vengeance for his murdered son - and most likely, the service revolver is the one Daley didn’t want him to ever be able to register upon his retirement.

Let us bury our brother in peace Mayor Daley. Then you can rot in hell for your part in turning this city over to the scum, dregs and non-contributing members of society who are given free rein to kill a man who served his country, wished to serve his city and worked tirelessly to better his community.

I’d consider that a terrorist threat, and have the mayor arrested.

No, I’m not kidding.

And yes, Shirley, I’m serious.

Democrats in Chicagoland/upper Illinois only go through the election process in order to maintain the illusion that voters are selecting the bosses.
