A former minister was stabbed twice in the stomach by a knife-wielding woman today as he held a surgery for constituents.
Stephen Timms was attacked by the 21-year-old, who appeared to be wearing Muslim dress, at his regular Friday afternoon surgery in his East London constituency.
She lunged at him and stabbed him twice before being wrestled away by a security guard and arrested.
An aide to Mr Timms was hailed a hero after it was revealed he wrestled the knife out of the hands of the female attacker.
Andrew Bazeley, 22, bravely disarmed the woman who had made an appointment to see Mr Timms at his constituency surgery, witnesses said.
Mr Bazeley was left covered in blood after he grabbed the knife and restrained the woman until a security guard arrived.
Mr Timms, 54, was being treated in hospital tonight and said to be in a stable condition.
Eye-witnesses screamed in terror as they watched the woman stab him in the abdomen.
One person who arrived moments after Mr Timms was attacked, said she saw blood on his shirt and an Asian woman being restrained by security guards.

Darn Methodists.
Uh, as an American I might be missing the terms meaning here, but was does “constituency surgery” mean....
Another muslim crime, ho hum. Although I’m certain Mr Timms is asking himself why she would attack a tolerant liberal such as himself.
I’m thinking town hall.
Like when Americans say “I want to pick your brains”.
How funny that Sagal Ahmed, 16, doesn't seem to consider herself either "Asian" or "Muslim."
“Office hours,” I think. Brits use “surgery” to mean a doctor’s or vet’s office and the open hours of such.
A British “surgery” is a public meeting members of Parliament have in their home district or “constituency.”
In the UK, all members of parliament are licensed as surgeons immediately upon election. Each is then responsible for personally performing all outpatient surgeries in the district they represent.
I helps keep down health care costs. Otherwise their socialized medicine health care system would have failed YEARS ago.
;-)
That’s right. We say ‘Doctor’s Surgery’ - where you drop in and see a Doctor. In the same way a MP’s surgery is where people come in and see the MP.
This deranged woman seems to have interpreted the term in a pretty grisly fashion. I’m heartily glad that Timms survived, and I hope his assailant doesn’t get out of jail for decades.
Ha. Ha. It would explain why they increased the costs...
Maybe a few jihadist surgeries are going to be what it takes for Parliament to wake up to the cultural menace of Sharia Law and Islamo-aggression.
A one-on-one meeting with your parliamentary representative. Not sure where the term originated but that's what it is.
constituency surgery here in the US means they take an arm and a leg at tax time.
In San Francisco it means, BOHICA.
Just to make it clear to the reader, “Asian” in Britain means East Indian in America. Most likely Pakistani.
I looked it up; it can be in Britain to me mean the office consultation hours for a doctor, dentist, or vet, but this use is really stretching it even for the Brits. I cry foul. Off with their journalistic heads. Please forgive the oxymoron.
So a self described “Christian Socialist” gets stabbed by a knife wielding muslim. Hmmmmm....
I honestly thought they were saying the MP was a doctor.
