(CNN) -- Pirates hijacked a Greek-owned cargo ship Wednesday morning off the coast of Oman, the European Union Naval Force Somalia said.

The Liberian-flagged Eleni P, operated by Eurobulk, was carrying 26 crew members when pirates overpowered the ship, the EU naval force said. The crew -- 23 Filipinos, two Romanians and one Indian -- are reported to be safe, the force said.

The ship was en route to India when it was taken by the pirates about 250 nautical miles off the coast of Oman, according to the force, which said it was monitoring the situation.

I doubt they get much ransom money from the Greeks right now.

Nah the Greeks will ask the EU and then the EU will ask the States.

Then the States will ask China.

It is the magical circle of asking a friend to lend you money to have another friend pay off a Qat addicted dude with an AK.

Why aren’t these ships armed and dangerous? I think it would be fun to pop some of these scum with a 50 calibre at 500 yds.

I still think they should create a few Q ships...standard small merchant ships that have hidden armament...say a vulcan or two that is hidden on deck. Sprinkle a few of those out at sea waiting to be attacked by pirates and start taking out the pirates, one boatload at a time.

Perhaps this could come to pass if they reported the crew was Russian?

Hire the Russians to take it back. I hear they pulled off a good job a few days ago.

I wish somebody would arm the merchants.

I could see several groups that should be willing to do so...the shipping companies who are tired of paying ransoms, and the insurance companies that are tired of paying out insurance claims, not to mention the actual sailors who might have grown tired of risking their lives to pirates.

btw For the young folk at FR, work and master your desire. Don’t tell me it’s stealing cargo that you have no involvement in.

The Navy Seals could do it but the pusses in Washington would haul them into court for being too violent. We are in deep poo poo here my friend.

"Sad but true."

Illegals cross the border. Arizona tries to do something about it and recieves condemnation from "The Commander In Chief". We are going to see more attacks as long as the lawless don't see retribution for their actions. That includes international pirates.
