A high profile in the media is a good way to keep one safe. However, if I were him I would have PERSONAL bodyguards from out of the area hired... (He probably has those already though)
I’m not sure I’d trust witness protection given who would have access to the information! IOW - If the President is out to get you, can they really hide you that well?
As for the Metra guy??? The irony of it all makes it HIGHLY suspicious. He puts himself in front of a train? Much easier to get rid of any “evidence” when the body completely ripped apart...
An unincorporated area outside Crystal Lake? Did the guy have his home up there? Did the Engineer actually see him step in front of the train or was his body laying on the tracks? Those express trains (running during those hours) go pretty dang fast. Even the non-express trains (that stop at all stations) get up to a pretty high speed between the stops up North... Glad the train didn’t derail.
A blonde hurries into the hospital emergency room late one night with the tip of her index finger shot off.

“Well I was trying to commit suicide,” the blonde replied.

“Then I put the gun to my ear, and I thought: This is going to make a loud noise, “so I put my finger in the other ear before I pulled the trigger.”
It’s a Chicago Way “suicide” epidemic ...
(There is at least one other “suicide” of which the name escapes me at the moment.)

The big question? Why didn’t Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott leave a suicide note? “In many instances, a note apologizing to family and loved ones is left behind by a suicide victim,” said a top cop source.
u The big irony: “The suicide is a shocker. Michael Scott seemed to like himself too much to end his own life,” said a Scott observer.
u The big probe: Although the Cook County medical examiner’s office has ruled Scott’s death a suicide, the police will investigate the possibility of foul play. “They will be looking to see if Scott had amended or changed his will recently,” said a source.
u The big clout: Scott, who has been described as a Mayor Daley “go to” guy, was seated at Daley’s table during the 1983 mayoral debate, when Daley and Harold Washington were running against Mayor Jane Byrne in the Dem primary,” said a Byrne source.

Two sources with knowledge of the situation told the Tribune today they have been notified that Christopher Kelly, a key figure into the federal corruption probe into former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is dead.
Plead guilty on Tuesday, dead by Saturday. The Chicago Way.
Here’s some background:
In the 28-page plea, Kelly admits to a litany of fraud while his roofing company worked as a contractor at O’Hare, including working with an insider to rig bids and fraudulently win contracts. That insider is accused of inflating the budget numbers and, in return, Kelly paid him at least $450,000 in kickbacks, according to the plea.
Kelly admitted he doctored invoices as a way to divert money to pay off personal gambling and other debt, including to repay $700,000 convicted businessman Tony Rezko gave him to buy a home, according to charges.
Rezko has been in jail since his conviction last June. He, too, voluntarily surrendered. Shortly after, he began providing information to the government.

Burris witness’ death accidental - Family puzzled by his missing briefcase

A Kendall County coroner jury ruled Thursday that the death of a key figure in the perjury investigation of Sen. Roland Burris was an accident.
John Ruff , 42, of Lake Holiday, died June 8 when his BMW Z-3 ran off Rogers Road on the far western edge of Kendall County.
Police said the crash is a case of inattentive driving.
Ruff ‘s family, however, still has some questions about the crash. Ruff was a witness in a perjury case involving President Obama’s former Senate seat.
The family wants to know what happened to Ruff ‘s briefcase.
“Yes, it could have been a total accident, but if he was run off . . .” said Ruff ‘s sister, Kathy Boydstun. “There were some people very angry when he came forward.”

But in March, Ruff raised the prospect of a possible trade-off between Blagojevich and Burris. Ruff recalled a conversation with Burris’ business partner, Fred Lebed, who allegedly said he had discussions about Burris’ interest in the Senate appointment with Blagojevich representatives as early as October.
That information contradicted Burris’ claim that neither Burris nor his representatives spoke with Blagojevich or his representatives before Dec. 26. Lebed accused Ruff at the time of being on a “witch-hunt” and fabricating that story.
“There is more to be discovered,” Ruff told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The family believes the crash might have been an accident, but they’re puzzled by a work briefcase they say is missing. Boydstun said her brother took the briefcase everywhere and kept important documents in it. The briefcase was not recovered from the car and has not turned up in Ruff ‘s home or home office, Boydstun said.
Thanks for the ping, Lucy. As a former resident of both Cook County AND McHenry County I call this highly suspicious. I notice the approximate area is directly next to a large forest preserve... No commentary from the engineer? No word on where he actually lived (was this near his home - definitely possible)? I’ll be curious to see what the Sheriff says during his press conference. I really hope the sheriff doesn’t automatically assume a suicide, but it looks like that is what everyone is believing anyway (judging by the comments at the Sun-Times).

Orlando Jones shot himself in the head on September 14, 2008, two days after FBI agents tried to interview him about an undisclosed matter. Jones wouldn’t to talk to them.
Jones was the godson of, and a former aide to, Cook County Board President John Stroger. Jones also once worked for Antonin “Tony” Rezko. At the time of his death, Jones was being investigated for hospital fraud in Las Vegas.
People are dropping like flies!!! There is NO WAY all these deaths are “accidents”. Even with the amount of people living in the area, this is HIGHLY unusual...
Someone needs to start a Chicagocide body count...
The other “suicide” was the head of the school districts I believe, I can’t remember his name right now, either.

NM — I see in your post now that you already had Michael Scott... I didn’t even know about/recall Jones!
SO, let’s see if I have this right now:
1. Two openly gay men from Obama’s church shot and killed during the campaign - the choir director reportedly killed just before a scheduled meeting with Larry Sinclair to discuss Obama. [2 men killed]
2. The man who was killed that was involved in the Passport scandal. [Add 1 more]
3. In associate with the Blago Trial:
a. Jones
b. Scott
c. Ruff
d. Pagano
TOTAL = 7 deaths with FOUR all having something to do with the Blago trial???
The odds of that are truly astounding, IMHO. People claim “accidents” and “suicides”, but really... I mean how many deaths of witnesses have to occur before someone notices a pattern here???
Please see my post at #74. Do I have the “body count” correct? I hadn’t recalled about Jones originally, but I think we’re up to 7 people dead now all with some tie to Obama and FOUR who were witnesses in the Blago trial in one way or another?
Shoot... We might as well up that number to #8, if we want to include Attorney Hemenway’s son.
