The Concord, MA bottle water ban story is from today - apparently printed hours before the water main broke that services 31 communities - Concord was just one town away from the boil water directive.
These environmentalists will leave you parched on the side of the road.
Miss Irony is sweet - the stars aligned today
I pick the wrong day to stop drinking beer.
LOL...clever.
I live on 5 acres; and consider that way too small an acreage. Thinking of selling it and moving to a larger parcel in the same area. We have a well and have several water tanks we fill and use from there; saves the well pump, and if there’s any problem with electricity, we have about 2500 gallon storage capacity. Or more. We have a generator and gas for the well pump if needed.
Our well water is sweet and pure but we have a Berkefeld purifier we got before we got this place. It’s worked for years. I would recommend one to anyone, you can put any crappy water in it and it takes care of pretty much anything. They now have various kinds of filters, IMO they work a lot longer than they claim. Initial expensce, and then tens of thousands of pure, good tasting drinking water that needs no water pressure or electricity or constantly changing filters.
You can work around a lot of things, but not water.
Just got done last week putting another 30 gallons drinking water in my shed. Thats in addition to the 50 or so I already had, and the 30 or so in my pantry.
I NEVER (well, almost never) throw out a good plastic container. They all get rinsed clean and filled with water and stored.
Except for milk containers. I could never find a good way to get rid of the punky milk smell/taste.
Hey I set that up...a clever hockey reference.
Meant to add - we got water storage tanks from farm supply stores, we don’t like the black ones, more toxic; green or white, for potable water. They need to be covered from light so algae won’t grow in them. We clean them out every now and then. One is (IIRC) 1200 gallons, one is 800, and then we have a couple of smaller ones that are easy to find around here that come with a metal frame and wood platform, around 175 to 250 gallons. They are made in Germany and used to hold juice, farm supply places often have them. They have spigots already.
We also have an 800 gallon stainless steel container that was used for cooling milk. Really a hassle because it’s so heavy even empty.
Mine always end up with algae after a few months.
The wars of this century won’t be fought over oil.. but clean water.
The milkfat and/or proteins bind with the plastic and they can never safely be used for drinking water. They could be washed with hot water and bleach and used for washing/toilet flushing water if needed, I’d add bleach for that as well.
People talk about the algae but in all my years of filling bottles and storing them, I have NEVER seen any algae growing in any of them.
Hey, you can still wash with it. Or even be adventurous and cook with it. Little extra plant protein won’t hurt!
How sweet it is!
Government = epic fail.
Wow. How Baghdad.

I worked on the MWRA’s SCADA system about 10 years ago.
damn that global warming . . .
Milk jugs are designed to be biodegradeable. Don’t store anything in them.
I worked on the controil system a number of years ago.
Yeah...lets get some shovel ready jobs going...
