Jeb Bush speaks out against Ariz. law
Politico ^ | Apr 27, 2010 | Jonathan Martin

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is speaking out against the new hard-line immigration law in Arizona, becoming the first prominent national Republican to do so.

"I think it creates unintended consequences," he said in a telephone interview with POLITICO Tuesday. "It's difficult for me to imagine how you're going to enforce this law. It places a significant burden on local law enforcement and you have civil liberties issues that are significant as well."

The measure, signed into law last Friday, would require police to check the immigration status of any individuals they reasonably suspect are illegal immigrants and arrest them if they can't prove legal status.

Bush said he understood the anger that prompted the bill, but that immigration should remain a federal issue.

What about citizens that look like illegals, that do not carry an ID around when they’re walking?

So what is supposed to be done. If not this, what?

We could be like the Dominican Republic and shoot people trying to enter illegally. Would that be acceptable?

We could be like many of our European friends and be forced to carry papers that prove citizenship. Would that be acceptable?

The only thing that is “acceptable” to a sizable minority is to do nothing. Their solution is to have open borders and quick citizenship. They think that this will lead to them gaining political power - and that is what it is all really about, political power.

It is ridiculous to have laws on the books that are ignored by the Federal government and that the states are prohibited from enforcing.

A lot of people don’t carry an ID with them when they are not driving.

If I’m walking or riding my bike to the store, I don’t carry anything other than money, lots of people do. I’m not a criminal...or would I be if I didn’t carry the proper papers with me at all times?

All they have to do is set foot in the US.

“I called for a heavily armed border back when the pubbies were pushing amnesty and I still see that as the best route. “

I think a heavily armed border would work better than the measure in AZ ever will. Stop em before they get in.

Federal. If a Cuban can get to a bus going into the US from Mexico, all he has to do is get out of the bus when immigrations says to...and they are on US soil.

The last paragraph says that Marco Rubio has also come out in opposition to the bill. “Rubio, whose parents were Cuban immigrants, said the legislation could ‘unreasonably single out people who are here legally, including many American citizens.’”

I have warned people about Rubio....he is pro-illegal alien

FIVE TIMES....while as Speaker of the Florida House, Rubio killed bills that would have made it easier for Florida to enforce the laws already on the Federal books dealing with Illegal Aliens....including E-Verify. Rubio killed them all

Fact is that Rubio is not the conservative people think he is....he is more like Mel Martinez, Jr.

I am in total agreement about Bush “aiding and abetting” illegal immigration. What I couldn’t understand was *why* he did it? Was it because he was paying off his business cronies by supplying cheap labor? Was it to destroy America’s manufacturing base by eliminating all the American workers? Was it it guarantee a vast divide between his family and class, and the rest of the hoi-polloi?

Why did he do it? Part of a scheme for a one-continent country from the Arctic to Chiapas? Why?

“It’s not Hispanic vs. white. It’s legal vs. illegal. We can’t let them make it about race. It is not about race.”

DITTO!

Jeb Bush obviously has not read the bill, and I no longer trust his judgment. And Marco Rubio needs to read the bill before he jumps on the Bush bandwagon!

I am listening to the Lou Dobbs show from Arizona now.
See the bill here thanks to Lou Dobbs:

I hope the citizens of Arizona continue to support their Governor and also elect JD Hayworth to the US Senate!

Bushes & Rubio are RINOs. I am not voting for Crist but I am not voting for Rubio. Maybe a real conservative will enter the race in FL. Rubio and the Bushes are just like MCCain, Crist and Graham-nesty.

Bill McCollum is so much better than Rubio. Rubio’s lying on amnesty reminds me of Tony Montana in Scarface.

Bob Smith (who is also running in the GOP senate primary), will be getting my vote.

I knew Rubio was pro-illegal alien as he killed so many bills in the FL House dealing with illegals.

At least with Bill McCollum, Florida will have a more conservative governor starting in 2011

Quite a difference between AZ and FL. There’s more sympathy for illegals in FL because many of them were/are fleeing a rotten communist regime (remember how many conservatives were on Elian Gonzales’ side for example).

AZ is a difference scenario.

Not exactly....

Florida now has a lot of illegal aliens from Mexico...and South and Central America. In fact, most of the Hispanics in South Florida are now non-Cuban....many are Illegal Aliens from South and Central America

The only real difference between Florida and Arizona is that illegals coming to Florida have a little more water to cross....

A lot of people don’t carry an ID with them when they are not driving.

Lots of people forget their drivers license when changing purses too. Chances are very good - unless there is a reason for them to be stopped - they are given the opportunity to have the officer follow them home, so they can produce an I.D.

The only problem that arises is that they don't have one.

Bob Smith is running in the primary? Yeah Rubio is an open-borders RINO like Crist. I will tell friends to vote for Bob Smith.

Does Bob Smith have a web site?

I told Rubio to stop sending me his stinking emails. He is a fraud like Crist.

Thus the reason Jeb Bush will never be President...

Poor Jeb - guess the fact that he has a Hispanic wife causes him to say something stupid about enforcing the law.

Pretty classy of him, and others like him, calling law-abiding American citizens and legal immigrants "racists" to cover for illegal behavior of the invaders.
