Boy Scouts of America Found Negligent in Landmark Sex Abuse Case
ABC News ^ | April 13, 2010 | EMILY FRIEDMAN

An Oregon jury found the Boy Scouts of America and the local scout chapter negligent today in a landmark case that accused the iconic organization of covering up alleged sexual abuse of several of its boy scouts for years.

The Boy Scouts of America face charges of sexual abuse by scout leaders. The nine-member jury ordered the organization to pay $1.4 million in damages, and will now move into a punitive phase that could result in the Boy Scouts of America paying a penalty that could reach $25 million. That decision is not expected for weeks.

In the civil suit filed last month in Portland, Ore., six plaintiffs alleged that the Boy Scouts of America allowed convicted child sex-offender Timur Dykes to continue to participate and lead troop activities, including sleepovers at his home with the scouts, even after he confessed in 1983 to having abused as many as 17 scouts.

The lawsuit focused on a now 37-year-old Portland man, identified by The Associated Press as Kerry Lewis, who claimed he was abused as a boy by Dykes while the Boy Scouts of America and the Cascade Pacific Council in Oregon, his specific Scout branch, did nothing.

Dykes, who had already been convicted twice on child abuse charges, was again convicted in 1994, when he admitted the abuse and was imprisoned. He is out on parole until 2013.

When dealing with children, don't take chances, no matter what the shrinks say about rehabilitation.

The liberals have a most effective double bind going to destroy institutions they don’t like, such as the Catholic Church and the BSA. Find a way to force them to employ predatory homosexuals, under the rubric of “tolerance” or “non-discrimination” or some such, then sue them into oblivion when those new hires do what any sane person would expect them to do and molest the boys in their charge.

I don’t remember sleep overs when I was in scouting. I was in cub scouts, in which the den was led by a woman and then in webelos (sp?) which the group was lead by a most honorable man. I remember group activities but seems sleep-overs even then would have been a red flag. And for the scouts to know about the guy, very bad.

What you said. Point on. That is preciously what the plan is and has been working for many, many years.

Turn about is fair play. Go after the government indoctrination schools. They should be sued into oblivion.

Yes the evil BSA has been punished. I was in the Cascade Pacific Council and I always had access to an axe. Maybe the lawyer on the other side can upgrade his Porsche Cayenne now.

No one had to force the Church into accepting gay priests. Liberals in the Church bought into the conclusion of the Shrinks that homosexuality is not a mental disorder.

“Liberals in the Church bought into the conclusion of the Shrinks that homosexuality is not a mental disorder.”

And they have convinced much of society of that now as well.

Actually, it appears that liberal/radicals in the Church consciously took over the seminaries and diocesan bureaucracies and made sure homosexuals got preference. The Pink Mafia and all that.

. Go after the government indoctrination schools. They should be sued into oblivion.

Perverts in government employ and the dens of iniquity that employ them have "sovereign immunity".

Convenient, that ...

Read this story in the context of the fact that the Obama administration is going full speed ahead with killing “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy encouraging the swelling of the ranks with homosexuals.

Let’s hope that so called, “gays” don’t do for the military what they have done for the Boy Scouts and the Catholic church. We are in the last days of our republic.

Since the boy scouts don’t have permanent employees doing what he did, what was his real profession? A school teacher?

The Boy Scouts fought, and fought, and fought to try to limit the kinds of people who could be Scoutmasters. They were subject to countless lawsuits from people who tried to stop them from continuing that practice. For people to then turn around and say that the Boy Scouts allowed child abuse to take place is completely insane. And clearly not true - they fought it tooth and nail.

This particular event sounds very uncharacteristic of the BSA. Why did they make an exception for this louse when their general policy is never to do that?

I don’t remember sleep overs when I was in scouting.

We had two, sort of. They were planned real camping trips, but weather for one and forest fire at another location prevented either from happening but at home weather was fine.

One of them my patrol pitched pitched camp in my parent's back field. The other the entire troop pitched camp in the school playground.

But I'm not really sure if I would count those as "sleepovers".

It is clear that the Boy Scouts and the Church were perfect preying grounds for the predatory gay villains. Both professions offer situations where the predator in positions of authority has many opportunities to be alone with vulnerable, innocent and impressionable young boys.

In any event I don’t blame so called “liberals” for the “lavender mob” (perhaps 3% of the population) having so much power. It is the 97% of citizens who are afraid of being called names (homophobe). The real definition of homophobia is the fear of the truth about homosexuality.

The curse of homosexuality is a destroyer of men and women who are called to be saints and intrinsically corrosive to the traditional family and traditional civilization.

Any time such a small minority wields so much political power there must be fascism involved.

Hmmm.

I can’t say I know the ins and outs on that. But I do remember a case being successfully pursued where the social worker and the police officer were civilly charged, and they lost. It was a homeschool family that was unreasonably harassed by the both of them. The homeschool family won. I used to keep that case in my homeschool recorder book for quick reference, in case there was a knock on the door one day.

Freud and company did that. Interesting thing was that Freud, a neurologist, failed to come up with a satisfying scientific theory of the human personality developed a mumbo-jumbo explanation that made sexual desire the root of it all. Much of it doesn’t workout in practice, but it sure does justify hedonism.
