Here is the chain of logic…
Make up story everybody wants to hear.
Leak it into a known or likely conduit to a conservative in the media.
Let them broadcast it for a day or two.
Announce that it is a “right-wing lie”
Bunghole Barney never had any intention of announcing his retirement even though he might. It is a wind drift indicator to detect/determine when and how to jump. The bonus is it dings a conservative in the process which is so much the better.
Now, if he does retire he can blame it on the "right-wing lie" that damaged his credibility (hahahaha) with the voters so now he can not win an election. It is all the right-winger's fault, you see...
