The TU-154 aircraft, carrying Polish President Lech Kaczyński, his wife Maria Kaczyńska as well as Polish dignitaries, was about to land in Smolensk, Russia, when it hit crash landed and burst in flames.
President Kaczyński was travelling to Katyń on official duty.
According to press information, other passengers on the plane were NBP president Sławomir Skrzypek and IPN head Janusz Kurtyka.
UPDATE 1: As many as 87 people aboard the plane are dead.
UPDATE 2: The Governer of the Smolensk region has said that all the passengers aboard the plane are dead.
Fox ‘breaking news’ apparently refers only to breaking news during business hours. I turned to FNS at 4a, hoping for an update on the WV miners, but it was a rerun of the Baier show with C. Wallace. Nothing about the miners.
Their first coverage of this crash will probably be around 7am. (ok, so a slight exaggeration) Frankly, the possibilities about this crash scare me to death.

There was a lot of noise around this visit and friction between Poland and Russia over Katyn where the Russians murdered the entire Polish officer corps.
At the Katyn Massacre, the Russians massacred more than 22,000 Polish officers in cold blood. For years they tried to blame it on the Germans, but everyone knew.
Putin still refuses to apologize for it.
Fox news dropped it.

A tragic loss. I trust no one and suspect everyone including Russia. They are foaming at the mouth since they have the Kenyan appeaser kissing their as*es and weakening the US.
Prayers for the families and loved ones of all who were lost.

Yeah, the TU-154 was probably not the greatest idea anyone’s ever had. Poland should have bought something else other than an old Eastern Bloc airliner for a Presidential craft.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Piotr Paszkowski said the presidential plane crashed 1.5 kilometers from the military airport in Smolensk.

Tu-154 had problems with the landing. Pilots pick up a plane in the air. The plane got caught in a tree, fell to the ground and caught fire. Fire has been extinguished.
According Paszkowski, the plane was checked before take-off and there were no technical problems.
On-site rescue teams are working.
Families of victims of the Katyn massacre, gathered at the War Cemetery in Katyn, pray for the presidential airplane passengers that crashed at the airport in Smolensk.
When the meeting was informed of the situation through loudspeakers, in the cemetery there was silence, then participants in the ceremony began to pray.
Considering that Kacysnski was headed for a memorial service at Katyn Wood, this is all the more smelly.
I should amend that more clearly to say after he left the service and the plane took off it crashed.
Polish TVP is in Smolensk because of the memorial service today.
