N.C. GOP chief wants Steele out

State Republican Chairman Tom Fetzer called Thursday for the resignation of national GOP Chairman Michael Steele, saying the party has set "a poor example of the kind of leadership voters can expect if Republicans are elected."

He's the first state party leader to ask Steele to step down.

Steele has been under fire since disclosures that the Republican National Committee approved a $1,900 bill at a Hollywood nightclub that features topless dancers simulating bondage and lesbian sex.

"Recent events, regardless of who is to blame, have made it difficult if not impossible for you to lead the party in the direction that it needs to go," Fetzer wrote to Steele. "The best service you can render to your party at this critical juncture is to graciously step aside and allow the party to move on from this current quagmire."

I hope they are not sitting out the fight altogether, but directing their contributions directly to viable candidates of their choice.

But........Sarah says he is doing a “good” job! Like McNutcase is the basis for the tea Party movement.

So on we go to another failed election.

I don’t know if Steele stepping down would help or hurt, honestly.

Steele has been a big disappointment, of course. He’s not come across well in most of the interviews I’ve seen, and I don’t think he’s done the best job getting the Republican party moving forward. Some Republicans have done well, but that’s been as much about backlash against the Democrats’ early bungling as anything. November presents a huge opportunity for the GOP, and I’m not sure Steele is the guy who can make the most of it.

OTOH, Steele may be the best we can hope for in the short term. Toppling the RNC chair just six or seven months before a crucial off-year election probably won’t solve anything, and could be disastrous. Anyone who steps in will have to move quickly to get himself established in the role in order to be effective by November. And not all of the issues plaguing the party (RINO’s etc) will simply vanish with Steele’s resignation. It may be better for the GOP to go into November with the cards it’s holding, and deal with any needed changes after the election.

Steele is a RINO, they’ve all got to move on.

I want Steele out also.
Hell, I want ALL RINO turds out and Steele is but one of many RINO turds.
Enough of this horse crap, let’s grow the party by becomming dem lite.
Real conservatives or go fish.

The only way that the Dems can win in November is to have us eat our own which we are really good at it seems. People that know say Steele is a good fundraiser in tough times here. Palin sees the danger of eating our own as do some others. We are in the driver’s seat for November so let’s not forget who we at war with here. If you have a candidate you like send the money directly to them and you do not have to deal with the RNC. Just a thought.

Steele has done NOTHING to move “Republicans” forward.

The very fact that they are currently NOT Democrats is ONLY reason why “Republicans” are doing so well.

Steele has pretty much disappeared. In fact, this is the very best thing that can happen for our chances to take back the government. Conservatives are moving themselves forward on their own merit.

The entire RNC needs to be abolished immediately!

I’m in the minority here, I know.

Whether you like Michael Steele or not, is of no moment here. (Had it been up to me, I’d have chosen Ken Blackwell. I delayed my move from Ohio to S. Utah in order to vote for him in the governor’s race.)

Please, let’s channel our inner Reagan here. No circular firing squads. As SP said, if we want him out, vote him out at the end of his term.

The measurement of a party chair, especially in off year elections, is results. Whether we like it or not, the wins of Christie, McDonnell, and Brown have occurred on M. Steele’s watch, as did the loss of NY-23. That’s the yardstick, good or bad.

Who benefits from strife at the top of the GOP, as we face nearly historic gains in the mid-term elections?

The LSM
Olbermann
Matthews (and his tingly leg)
Obama

We need to cut the crap for now and line up behind Steele. To do anything less is going to (once again, as the stupid party is wont to do) snatch defeat from the jaws of Victory.

The left is looking to change the subject on their disastrous policies.

Let’s not give it to them, on a doily covered silver platter.

I think Governor Palin has the right approach:

Support Mr. Steele in public, while making (darn) sure Steele is replaced at the end of his term, which is fast approaching.

He’s a mess, but he’s our mess.

Focus on the real opposition please. :)

You lost me there. You mean that we will hurt ourselves if RINOs eat other RINO’s?

You are way off by saying Steele is a “Good fundraiser”. In fact, his very presence has caused donations to the RNC to drop dramatically.

As far as Palin goes, she needs to distance herself from the RNC and stop promoting them. That fact alone has caused a great rift among true Conservatives.

Indeed.

We forcibly dump Steele now, we give the media a TWO WEEK STORY.

That is two weeks we lose for our candidates to make their case, to expose Obamacare for the disaster it is, to remind America that this Congress is grinding this economy into the ground.

Don’t fall for the trap laid out by the left.

When is his term up? Is it after the elections?

I hate this brazen "tough it out" crap that Clinton started where nobody seems to have the grace to quit when they've done a bad job.

North Carolina is Ratland, has been for over a hundred years IIRC. This is suspicious.

Remember the Club For Growth (iirc the name) which for years tried to get weak congressional Republicans replaced with strong conservatives, usually ended up handing the seats to Democrats instead. Do not let the perfect become the enemy of the good.

Agreed, Steele has got to go, but we need a manager in there, one who can grab the reins and go. We need

Message
Money
Management

I can think of two names that come to mind: Newt and Mitt. Of the two, I think that Mitt would be the better choice. I think he’s out in 2012 (whatever he thinks) and he is an excellent manager.
