Nah, they should have let him visit him, 24/7 for a couple decades in the cell next to the guy he wanted to visit.

Good idea! I knew there had to be more to the story last night. The guy just looked too smarmy on his facebook page for any level of comfort.

Yeah, and reportedly, he’s not going to be charged with any offense and he’s being returned to Quatar.

To: GraceG
I think I would have preferred the passengers to scream “terrorist” and beat the crap out of him AND THEN put him in the adjoining cell. ;-)

A Qatari diplomat who caused a bomb scare after sneaking a smoke in an airplane bathroom was traveling for a consular visit to see an imprisoned al-Qaida agent. A State Department official and another person close to the matter say Mohammed Al-Madadi was going to meet Ali Al-Marri for an official visit. Consular officials frequently visit foreigners held in the United States to make sure they are being treated well." I hope this arrogant ass that said "I was lighting my shoe on fire" enjoyed his asswhooping on the aircraft.....

Obama will let him back in once the media glare dies down. Mark my word.

For a little while at least. No doubt that Obama will let him come back once the attention dies down.

I don’t see any “more to the story”. Consular visits are routine. We have consular officials visit each and every US citizen jailed abroad, no matter how worthless and guilty we know they are. And if you bother to read between the lines here, you’ll see that the jailed Qatari terrorist was being given a 5-star snub. Anybody the Qatari government gave a crap about would get a visit from responsible and fairly senior member of the consular staff. This jailee got the stupid young kid who sneaks smokes in airplane lavatories and “jokes” about having a shoe bomb to authorities on the plane. Since Stupid-Young-Kid didn’t quite make it all the way to the jail, they’ll have to send somebody else now, like maybe the janitor.

His diplomatic credentials will be pulled because his stupid stunt prevented him from carrying out this simple consular duty. Jailed foreigners MUST be visited by a representative of their embassy’s consular staff.

Let’s hope so!! Qatar is one of the BETTER mid-east countries.

It would appear that you are seeing ‘more to the story’ as well...lol.

How in the world are no charges being filed? If you or I were caught smoking in the bathroom of a plane in mid-air, we would receive up to XX years in prison and up to a $xxx, xxx fine. We’ve all seen those signs in the bathrooms...
I guess the moral of the story is, if you are caught puffing a cigarette on an airplane, then simply pretend to be blowing up your shoe, and then you’ll get to walk from everything? Is it me, or is EVERYTHING backwards?
