WSJ: Strange New Respect A drastic shift in the media stereotype of the tea-party movement
Wall St. Journal ^ | 4/5/2010 | James Taranto

Posted on 04/05/2010 4:35:06 PM PDT by GVnana

There was a time, oh, a week or two ago, when the mainstream media portrayed the tea-party movement as an assortment of crazed angry extremist redneck racist idiots. What changed?

The headline we've given this column is a phrase coined by the conservative writer Tom Bethell to refer to the media's attitude toward conservatives who veer leftward. What we're about to describe is a bit different: more an epiphany on the media's part than a change in the object of coverage. It seems unlikely that the tea-partiers have suddenly become mainstream.

Yet that's what you'd think from reading some of the recent coverage. The Christian Science Monitor, which a month ago baselessly labeled Pentagon shooter John Patrick Bedell a "right-wing extremist," begins a Saturday story by rehearsing the stereotypes but then cautions that "political experts say that many such criticisms are near-sighted, if not outright inappropriate--and ultimately may miss the point":

Indeed, polls suggest that tea party activists are not only more mainstream than many critics suggest, but that a majority of them are women (primarily mothers), not angry white men.

What's more, the release this week of the top three planks of the "crowd-sourced" Contract From America project, to some activists, shows a maturation from sign-wielding protesters to a political reform movement grounded in ideas.

Good point. I suspect that the WH handed out new talking points about this. I saw Juan Williams today do a big about face on the Tea Party movement and found myself shouting at the TV.

False Flag operations, indeed.

Remember Ross Perot.

They are making it attractive so more Republicans become independence and then split the vote in 1012. Their boy Barry Hussein wins like Klitoon did.

"One, the gradual realization within the MSM that they could actually agree with some of the tea party positions.

Two, the fact that tea partiers behave themselves.

Three, the tea party made it plain for the world to see that Democrats in the house and senate are corrupt, belligerent asses."

Four, the MSM realizes that their time is limited, and if they continue to poke the tiger, the tiger will be coming after them as well.

Strange new respect? When did that happen?

I was wondering that myself.

I think it was just this morning I heard some congressman saying all that's left for us to do is to pull sheet over our heads and start lighting crosses on fire.

I think there is a very real attempt on the part of this administration to pretend they have "adopted" some of the tea party's "better ideas" and use this to confuse voters.

The MSM, as their lackeys, go along.

“Strange new respect? When did that happen?”

When the MSM found out that the TEA party demographic base matched exactly their subscriber base demographics. It’s all about money.

They are just going to redefine the word like they did for “Evangelical”.

“Tea-party” will become another name for “Third Way.”

Return of the “Third Way”

” I give her another week before she decides that she’s one of us again. “

Maybe she’ll decide that we’re one of her.

Maybe we’ll all get giant gavels and hang out with her. Everywhere she goes. Silently. Thousands of us.

All dressed like the Grim Reaper, with the giant gavel props. I like it.

A lot.

Let’s do it.

” But let’s not get comfortable and forget about Trojan horses.”

But seriously, do they actually MAKE Trojans for horses? Because it’s a pretty frightening thought, not to mention downright silly.

To: what's up

I suspect they’re recalculating who to split off from who, to then isolate and ridicule.

They got what they wanted, but understand they made us mad.

But see...they want MORE stuff:

Now they’ll buddy up to us, and throw us some shiny baubles, and that will go full steam right b4 the elections; that’s when they let us sit at the, “cool kid table”, and even say we play pretty good football.

After November, then they go back to taking our lunch money and giving us Atomic Wedgies.

It’s simple, the media will begin to “legitimize” the Tea Party in hopes that they will run a third-party candidate against Obama two years from now.

The Obama administration has the “Coffee Party.”
With the decoder ring it's actually the "Co-fee Party".
