Statement: "...The action prompted a Pentagon spokesman to deny that the Navy had a "catch and release" policy regarding pirates."

Response: The article is a perfect illustration of what one writer many years ago called "The precious modern lie, where one affirms and denies the same thing at the same time." They catch the pirates then release them and then deny they catch and release pirates. Oh Lord forgive our sins and help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The era of "The Divine One" in action.

Since when did they change the Law of the Sea? Why cannot pirates be summarily hanged or shot on the orders of the captain of any ship that captures them?

I guess I’m so crude and simple-minded, but I want to know why we should capture any of the scumbags in the first place..... if there are no hostages/civilians involved the obvious solution would be to kill pirates and sink their wittle boats without ever capturing any......

If it’s a hostage rescue then it’s still better to kill off the pirate/terrorist vermin whenever possible. Taking them into custody means they will be released again to continue their pirate ways.... I thought the rescue of that cargo ship captain was (3 of 4 pirates shot dead???) was a good way to do it.....

I don't know about the Law of the Sea, other than knowing we haven't ratified the treaty on it that's been slithering around for years. I do know this still applies:
Article I, Sect. 8 The Congress shall have power:
...
To define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas, and offences against the law of nations
Someone needs to ask Pelosi and Reid about "catch and release." They have the power, thus they should have some responsibility.

A Naval official told ABC News that the practice of releasing pirates is not unheard of. While piracy is illegal according to international maritime law, it is considered a criminal issue, not a national security one.

I wonder what Thomas Jefferson would think of that comment?

“and bury them at sea.”
Make sure the location is marked on your GPS so you know where to put the crab pots in a few days.

The should kill the pirates. That has been the response that was called for when dealing with pirates for centuries. Don’t be swayed by ACLU jackasses. Kill the SOBs. You’ll soon see a fewer and fewer pirates.

Best thing to do would be to kill all the pirates, except for one. Then let him watch as you dstroy every ship and boat they had, with the most insulting methods possible. Put the remaining pirate in a dingy, and send him to wherever they come from. Repeat as often as necessary.

That right there is my catch and release policy. Sink their ship and let them take a long walk off a short plank.

“Earlier Thursday, five pirates were taken into custody after they attacked a U.S. warship.”

Excuse me? Five raggedy-ass Somali pirates attacked a U.S. warship?

What kind of drugs are they using over there?

For centuries, the standard thing to do with pirates was hang them.
Why should now be any different?

"With a pot roast handcuffed to their foot...

Oddly enough, that would be a waste of a good pot roast. The predators you are hoping to attract are mostly shallow water feeders. Your best bet would be to chum the water with fish blood and oil, and then set them adrift with a life jacket that actually floats. You might even point out which way is West. And THEN the oceanic Whitetips... (See any reports of the USS Indianapolis, or the SS Nova Scotia)

Major chuckles...

With Barak the First, there is no risk involved. It's not like he is interested in protecting the United States or anything.
