>> And if you do drink and drive, don’t blame the car, the other passengers, the bartender, the other cars on the road etc for the wreck.

What if you drink and are shot? Mugged? That someone is drunk does not give a free pass to do whatever you want to them. That someone acts stupidly and thoughtlessly puts themselves in harm’s way does not justify a crime against them.

People are to blame for their own actions. If a drunk girl is raped — she is to blame for getting drunk, and he’s to blame for raping her. If she is responsible for her actions, HE MUST BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS.

Has ABC changed the copy, or did you edit it?

If I say no and get up to leave, you had better fracking stop. You got that right. Of course, I'm certain that a lady like yourself would never find yourself in such a compromising position, right? ;-)

I saw both sides of this in college. Girl I was friendly with was attacked and raped - she never "got over it", as some would suggest, it's a trauma that she carried around for life.

There's a bit of a good ending to it....I dunno all of the circumstances, but the long and short of it was that the guy came back and started stalking her. Campus cops did nothing. Girl called her dad, who was peripherally connected to the mob. Dad made a phone call and called in a favor. End of problem. Guy left campus, and per the girl "the state, as well."

Contrast the girl, with a male friend of mine. A "he said, she said" type situation, that wound up with him being accused of rape (later, the case was declined to be prosecuted, but the guy left school under a cloud).

I knew this guy well enough to say "Hey, what really happened". His reply (roughly) was "I don't know. We both went to a party and had few. Had a great time that night. Got up, we both went to breakfast, and hung out for awhile. She went off with her roommate, I went back to my room to study. Next thing I know, the cops are at the door."

Both cases were called "rape" but there sure was a difference between the two. I don't have all the answers, but cooler heads need to prevail, somewhere.

There are all kinds of situations.

True rape should be punished harshly; castration would be fine with me.
There are many cases where woman are raped by someone they know. Maybe while on a date with someone. That is a criminal act by the rapist and as I said; I would want to shoot him if it was my daughter involved.
They are forced to have sex against their will; and many of them don't want to report it.

There are also cases where a woman agrees or maybe initiates things; and then afterwards say they didn't want to do it. That is of course a totally different situation.

Parents need to raise their kids with values; and talk about these kind of things.
They are realities; and bad things happen way to often.

"pulling a gun to someone's head"

Once more the public school "English" education rears its ugly head. And this kid is in college? No doubt and affirmative action student......

The objective of this article and the whole movement is to make women fear men. And another one might be to make hot chicks more available for dates with woman fond of comfortable footwear...

Are you serious??? You meet someone that seems to be nice and then go out with him and he pulls this slop, this happens!

You can’t have raised kids and make this statement. Sometimes they don’t make good judgement, haven’t we all?

The young man has a point. However in the new feminist, man hating Amerika, he should expect a backlash that will destroy his life. Speaking the truth these days is mighty dangerous.

That’s the problem of perception sometimes. However girls getting drunk and claiming rape because “it must have been rape! I would have never done that on my own!”. Alchohol can drastically alter our behavior. However there is also the possibility of the use of ‘date rape’ drug which could be then used as “she just got drunk and didn’t know what she was doing.” I’m quite certain that has happened a LOT!

Here is what I tell my kids... my son is 24, I told him he was to NEVER sleep with a drunk girl. Not only is that in poor taste (I hate to admit I said this, but I told him there were plenty of girls who were easy if he wanted sex that bad-but it’s true-especially since he’s a really handsome guy and goodness knows I got enough phone calls from girls when he was a teenager) but it puts him in a vulnerable position later on if the girl decides she really didn’t want it. After the fact.

My daughters (13 and 14) aren’t old enough to go to parties yet, but there is always the chance they sneak off to one. I was a teenager once, I’m not stupid. Anyway, I started preaching in their head to make sure they ALWAYS go with a friend they can trust and ALWAYS insist they remain together. Of course I can’t protect them from everything that can go wrong, or stupid mistakes they make, but I can sure put it in their head.

“ANY girl who gets so drunk she doesn’t have good sense IS asking to be fornicated.”

If that’s fair, then ANY man that gets so drunk he doesn’t have good sense is asking to be fornicated by the nearest gay man.

I guess I just don’t see rape as a fit punishment to getting drunk.

Girls or women should expect society to protect them. But if you go into a room alone with a guy you are making it impossible for society to prevent the rape...

To use an example from the thread...if someone tapes $100 bills to their clothing and walks through the 'Hood, they'll still be victims, and the perps will still be the perps.

But I'll not be inclined to get worked up about it...in the least.

Seriously, the only thing I think is that there are two seriously stupid people (college students, go figure) and they both created a no-win situation.

Guys, college is not meant to be the opportunity to get your horndog on. Life and society are full of beartraps tripped by your sex drive. If you can't control it you will surely regret it.

>> Its time to quick calling rape date-rape. Anyone who rapes my daughter had better not let me get to him. Rape of any kind is NEVER, NEVER, NEVER ever acceptable!

I’m with you.

Part of the problem is feminists have so over-used and diluted the term “rape” that it has lost its meaning.

Rape is rape. Its either rape, or its not. Quit hyphenating (date-rape, acquaintance-rape, grey-rape, statutory-rape). And, feminists will often use the term “rape” to refer to an act that is decidedly not rape (drunken regret, reluctant consent, negotiated/cajoled consent, non-payment of a prostitute, marital contact when she’s not “in the mood”, etc.). False rape claims have further made the term suspect.

There is also a feminist tendency to apply the label “victim-blaming” to any advised safety precautions for women, or any investigation into the voracity of a rape allegation. “Don’t get drunk at a frat party” (or at all); “Don’t walk alone at night”; “Avoid dressing too provocatively or leading on some guy you don’t know.” These are all good precautionary ideas, but feminists will call them “victim-blaming”, and act as if such ideas are masked justfication for raping a sluttily-dressed, drunk or unaccompanied woman.

Given all of that — well-intentioned conservatives, who are justifiably suspect of feminism due to its more insidious aspects, have also become suspect of the word “rape” ... because, just because a feminist calls it “rape” doesn’t mean it actually was rape. This has unfortunatley caused many conservatives to become callous to actual instances of rape (date or otherwise) ... and sympathetic to accused rapists, sleazy frat-guys, and bone-headed columnists like the tool who wrote this article.

Rapists are scum, and deserve what they get. Women who dress a certain way, get drunk, or behave a certain way do not deserve to be raped ... this includes girls at frat parties, drunk girls, and even prostitutes. Conservatives should be more sympathetic to victims in this regard ... and more hostile to the criminal.

However, drunken regret IS NOT rape. So ... feminists should stop labeling non-rapes “rape”, stop hyphenating actual rapes, stop justifying false rape claims, and stop calling any investigation or safety-tips “victim-blaming”.

“Bad judgment leads to bad results regardless of your gender.”

No doubt there are consequences to poor decisions, but saying that all women that get too drunk are asking to be fornicated is flat out wrong.

I have gotten too drunk and can assure you that it did not mean I was looking for sex.

Jesus. Happy hour after work and I am asking for sex????

You have to be kidding.

No still means no.

Yea... except when, the girl is saying... 'no, no..., we need to stop'... while simultaniously pulling the guy's shorts off and making hickies where they can't be seen.

It IS a 'fine line'.... and, it takes TWO to Tango, and if no one else is there to be a witness, how can ANYONE else possibly know how it went down?

Nope. Getting drunk, going to a man’s room and having sex means you want to have sex. Totally different situation. But you knew that, didn’t you?

Jesus. Happy hour after work and I am asking for sex????

You have to be kidding.

I've had the misfortune of missing out on what I was hoping would be great sex because... the girl I was with became too drunk. It's just not the right thing to do, and some of us know it. From what I've seen of the horn dog class of young men, however, I think I was in the minority.

I've also had the misfortune of having a young girl CLAIM that I "raped her"... after she practically raped me! Lucky for me, her protestations were only made to me, and not to any authorities.

Point being... there are "bad actors" in both genders.
