Former Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. confirmed Tuesday that he will challenge Gov. Martin O'Malley this fall.
Ehrlich, the state's only Republican governor in a generation

Now, let’s get dump O’Malley. Wahoo!
Pretty much.
What are his chances?
I think his chances are very good. O’Malley is not well liked IMO. It’s like the ‘I miss Bush’ sentiment.
Go, Bob, go!
I’d say as good as Scott Brown’s were.
If he can carry Baltimore County, which he didn’t do last time, he has a “fighting chance. I live in the 1st Cong. District and we are hoping to oust (D) Kratovil. That should help turnout in a conservative district. It would be nice if the coat tails went both directions
There are a lot of good people in Maryland so this is not meant to offend. But politically speaking Maryland is a cesspool and has been for a very long time. The problem is that the state is comprised to a very large degree of Federal Employees and the baggage that government workers always have. Therefore the state will always have a very permanent liberal slant. People are dependent on the Government in a way that they are not in most other states. It’s interesting that right next door is Virginia which is a sane state politically. They have very different political cultures.
Like I’ve always said, more dead democrats will vote in Baltimore county than live Republicans in the rest of the state. This is why the state dem leader said that they have too many blacks to lose.
I wish he was taking on Babbles Mikulski in the Senate race :-(
He was the first republican governor since Agnew. I think his chances are good.
Federal employees are ticked at the Dems. Their retirement is being threatened as is their health care.
It is. We have good camouflage, however.
You are correct. But, Virginia is a much larger state. Marylands economy is much more effected by the number of federal and fed-contracting jobs. We probably don’t feel the pinch in a down economy as other states. At least as far as unemployment is concerned.
I don’t know if she can be beat. I hope so of course, but she brings back the bacon or pork if you prefer.
I hope he doesnt pick a blind woman to run as Lt. Governor this time.
I he doesn’t pick someone so unknown.
What Republicans are known in Maryland outside of Bob and his wife?
There are several state Senators and Delegates that are fairly well known in the state.
But they voted for 0, and they have both Senators from the demonrats.
Not really. Conservatives are just not allowed to have any say in how the state government is operated, serve on juries, serve as judges or participate in shaping their own or their family's future in the People's Socialist Democratic Republic Of Maryland. We're lucky to be allowed to vote.
I’m in Baltimore County, far too many old people still voting Demonrat, same as their fathers. They don’t know about Tom Bromwell (ex-MD state senator) and his wife, sitting in prison because the FBI caught them taking bribes, nobody in MD bothered.
They’re dying, so there’s hope. Ehrlich was my congressman, I vote for him everytime, so does most of my area.
Big problems:
1. Baltimore City, mostly black, most should not be voting because they have criminal records but that doesn’t stop the DemRats from counting their vote.
2. Prince Georges County outside DC, really black and same as above.
3. Montgomery County (Monkey County). Full of government workers, Demonrats, a sanctuary county within a sanctuary state. Crime is up, do they care? One of the most overpriced hellholes to live in in the USA.
4. Nursing homes, dead people and just plain outright voter fraud. Baltimore City leads the way. Waste product Glendenning from Prince Georges County didn’t get enough votes until the fraud re-count came in from the city back in 1996. Lone Republican woman (1 of 3 on the board) on the certification board sold out and certified the election for a political appointment. Would have been fixed without vote.
5. Erhlich won the governor’s race because he ran against Kathleen KENNEDY Thompson, that name didn’t help her and she’s out of politics. Thank God, she acted like a young teenager around me and I was her age.
MD sucks, I moved here with the goal to locate in S PA. It’s a daily traffic jam with people living in PA and working in MD. Never did make that move up the road.
We’ve got great roads but lousy drivers in Baltimore County. Much better in the rest of the state. Traffic jams especially on the north side of the beltway are caused by drivers who can’t drive. Cellphones have multiplied the problem.
I was rear ended my first week in MD, hit at least 3 times in my first ten years, and I’m being kind, I probably forgot a few. First time I was stopped at a red light. No damage. One time I was stuck in Beltway traffic and stopped next to a Cop standing in the median. He just happened to be next to my drivers side window. Next I know it’s thump, thump. 3 cars and the cop saw the whole thing. He already had problems with traffic, but luckily I had no damage and left. He still had to fill out an accident report because the middle car in the sandwich had major rear bumper damage.
Anyone thinking about MD should consider Texas or Arizona first. Go Sheriff Joe!
Me too. We need to take this back.
Lets THROW THEM ALL OUT!
I'm in the 2nd district but very close to the first(Carney). I did phone banks to help Andy last time. He can win the 1st. Lets get him in this time.
I also really want to DITCH DUTCH.
Well, there were TWO reasons Erhlich won...
1) KKT is an idiot. I don’t mean the cliched “what an idiot” - I mean she’s literally not very bright.
2) Parris Glendening was the most despised governor in the history of Maryland. A complete arrogant a-hole who was hated by even all the Democrats in the state government.
I don’t think O’Malley is nearly as hated as Glendening was, and he’s certainly not as dumb as KKT. I’ve learned not to be too optimistic about Maryland politics.
My county (Harford) always goes republican and for Ehrlich. This can be said for most of the northern, western, and eastern shore counties. Unfortunately, O’Malley will only need to carry PG, AA, Montgomery Counties & Balt City and we will likely lose.
If Ehrlich can get back approx 10-15% of Balt County there is a chance. I assume he threw his hat back in confidant that he can do just that.
Actually, most of the state is conservative. The Eastern Shore (where I live) and the Mountains of Western MD (where I was born) both vote heavily conservative. It is Balt, PG, and Montgomery county who give us non-government employed hard working Marylanders a bad name

LeRoy Myers is your man if you want a TRUE conservative governor.
He’s honest, Christian, pro-life, hard-working and ethical.
I grew up with the whole family.
Salt of the earth people.
If I were him, I wouldn’t count on the Western Maryland turnout.
You can only fool hillbillies once.
It is, and Ehrlich IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE.
And lets dump the unimpeachable Doug Gansler, too!
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Well, it’s been 40 years and they haven’t caught me yet. And we’re talking Kolumbia, Central MD here.
You mean the “Miss me yet?” sentiment!
“The problem is that the state is comprised to a very large degree of Federal Employees and the baggage that government workers always have.”
Bingo.
Well, almost. MD is traditionally “Democrat” - homegrown from the Civil War era (can’t let it go) as well as foreigners (of the type you mention). The CW types couldn’t let go until it was too late, and by then Feds had taken over.
Never mind the problems of a big city, especially when it is a big % of your land mass as well as population.
BTW, sorry to say, but VA is being taken over finally by those same DC Fed government-trough liberals. Northern VA is not what it was even in my youth just 25 years ago. The Potomac protected it a long time.
You know, once again, the issue of “secession” has been breached by Eastern Shore types, as it was 10-15 years ago.
Don’t be so sure about those stats.
My husband was on a jury just today. :D
(That’s KK Townsend.)

Miss me yet?
Whish I thought of that when this thread was posted. Great campaign slogan and very appropriate.
Yes, I’m aware of this. I’ve followed the election results and seen this alarming trend. The rest of the state of Virginia is quite different from Northern Virginia. Even Northern Virginia is very different from what it use to be. I hate going to Northern Virginia. The people are rude and don’t have the class that they have in the rest of the state. As a Californian who travels there frequently that’s my opinion and it’s the truth.
“1) KKT is an idiot. I dont mean the cliched what an idiot - I mean shes literally not very bright.”
I’m guessing you’ve met her too. She was always an a**hole child-like girl when she came to the local DemocratIC club meetings.
You can’t believe how many stupid Rats thought this was a Democrat club, it was actually a non-political drinking party with politicians invited. Dues were $5/year with free beer/soda at every monthly meeting. Can’t beat that price.
MD is like that as well. Rat areas are Baltimore City, Prince George’s and Montgomery County. Baltimore County has three bad areas, Catonsville, Randallstown and Pikesville on the west side. Anne Arundel has overflow from PG County and Annapolis is taking a turn for the worse.
Got a funny story about Randallstown, I was eating lunch with the Director of Science at our engineering firm and they had a car pool from Randallstown back in the ‘60s when these guys were young and bought their first homes. All were then leaders with multiple promotions. All retired now.
One of the guys was Christian, the other three were Jewish. He asked the Director if he remembered when they were coming to work way back when and he asked if they were all going to sell their houses to black people and move out and leave him behind. They all had done so and the ‘hood was sinking, two other guys I knew bolted for the same reason.
Fast forward to last time I saw him and he finally pulled up stakes and got out. A black neighbor came to him and said he couldn’t keep the local kids from breaking into his house and multiple garages (he restored old cars) and it was probably a good idea to leave. My buddy was glad to move, his wife liked their home otherwise he would have left long before that.
Bad news was he moved to Manchester, above Hampstead and both are sanctuary areas for hispanics now since the local law enforcement has declined to pursue charges. Drivers licenses for hispanics can be obtained from a special line at the DMV for spanish speaking and what I don’t understand is they are registering their cars in PA. I’ll figure it out eventually or someone will fill me in.
Towson’s not much better, government workers and same problems most areas have with the city being vacated.
Fed Employees are part of the problem, yes, as Montgomery and PG County are so heavily Dem for that reason. Howard too to a lesser degree.
The other part is the high black population - while many deep South states have more blacks, many of these blacks in MD are also motivated voters (and many Fed employees on top of it) - where in the South, they largely are not. Getting blacks to vote less than 90% Dem is a challenge.
True - there is more than just the Federal employee issue (although my wife is a Fed employee and as conservative as me)...
You have the high black population, the “hereditary Democrats” (my daddy was a Dem so I am) that are all over Baltimore, Anne Arundel, and Howard Counties, the Columbia hippie types, all contributing as well to MD’s Dem slant.
Bleh.
