It's been said that the military is always preparing for war. That is true. We prepare for combat every day. We ran 5 miles today to the rifle range and shot nearly 200 rounds a piece at targets and then ran back. However, we also pray for peace. I would love one day to be completely unnecessary. But alas, I am a realist, and I know that day will never come.

The headlines of the last week have reminded me more of glimpsing at the S2 Daily Briefing Sheets while in theater or the Al-Jazeera than the NY Times or the Washington Post. Think about that for a moment, let it sink in.

Before I get into the main premise of this article - I need to make two statements here.

First and foremost , when it comes to the back and forth of who did what to whom and why - I don't give a @!$%#. It doesn't change the action. In life we're judged by our actions, nothing more, nothing less. One of the greatest things of the military is when it comes to an enemy, the politics behind the situation - don't matter in accomplishing that mission. For the military , life is simple in that regard.

Secondly, Regardless of your political ideology, you've earned the right as US Citizens to say your piece - no matter how wrong it may be. That is your right, and I will give my life to protect it.

Actually the collapse of civilization might make it unnecessary anyway.

Newsvine is owned by MSNBC and is even further to the left than MSNBC. An article on Newsvine that garnered 277 votes from that audience is obviously just what the lefties want to hear.

The only people trying to start a civil war are the ones that are in the process of staging a coup against the US Constitution.

The rest of us would just rather see the Constitution be followed, or changed through the proper process.

It is up to the military to decide which side of that argument they want to be on.

Is anyone “calling for a civil war” or are they simply saying that may prove to be our only way out of the socialist morass in which we find ourselves?

There isn’t going to be a civil war, at least not a traditional shooting war. We need to fight our war in the state legislatures.

We’re a country that’s far too mixed and even the bluest states are heavy with red outside the cities.

He is right in that an armed uprising would be a rebellion to be put down by the military. The rebels would be the enemy of the Constitution at that point.

That is not the way the liberals understand it though. They think if they pass a law, such as banning all privately owned firearms, they can use the military to enforce it.

At that point, those issuing orders to the military to enforce an unlawful order would be the enemies of the Constitution.

Hotheads deciding to move away from the ballot box towards the bullet box will meet with military problems.

Arrogant politicians who seek to enforce their will through unconstitutional means will likewise meet with military problems.

This Marine, if that is what he is, needs to recognize that Marines will do what their officers tell them to up to a popint. When there is a question of who is violating the constitution, there is a big question as to what the troops will do. We are Americans not mind numbed robots and not rag heads in Iraq.

If the military oath is to protect and defend the Constitution then how do they decide which side to help? It seems to me it’d be a state by state revolt should it happen but then the president could nationalize the Guard ...

I can't speak for all, but in my case - the moment you declare civil war, you're no longer civilians. The moment you attack the constitution, you're now enemies of that constitution. And I swore to defend and support and if necessary give my life for that Constitution and utilize every tool, technique, and weapon at my disposal to do so. And trust me, I'm not alone.

I can declare civil war without attacking the constitution. In fact, one side of the civil war will be on the side of the constitution.

When the White House violates the constitution, then what is he going to do?

Sgt C from the USMC has just told use marines would fire on their own countrymen. I’m interested to hear what the rest of our Jarhead brethren on FR think about this mans not so subtle threat.

Bullcrap. The Marines willing to stand behind a Marxist gov’t over the people on pain of death are very few and the gov’t knows this. This letter is absolute crap. (I did 6 years in the (USMC) infantry, one tour of Iraq.)
