I think so. I think it’s saying pro-life groups should clothe, feed, house, and otherwise support her since she is having her baby. Stupid and illogical. I suppose by that reasoning, those who oppose capital punishment should let the murderers move in with them.

One less lawyer would be a blessing for this country. A million less would be even better.

I think there are two separate agendas in this article:

1) There should be no state preclusion of getting welfare while you are an able-bodied college student.

2) Pro-life groups are really hypocrites because 1 group she asked for help declined because her situation wasn’t bad enough. If pro-life groups do not help this particular woman, their cause is out and out wrong.

>>>Christine Young: “I pretty much sit here all day and I am left with my thoughts and sometimes it’s overwhelming and sometimes I break down and cry.”

That would explain the no money thing... <<<

Yeah, just sitting around all day generally doesn’t pay that well...unless you are a government worker or in a union, of course.

She has time enough to sit around and feel sorry for herself and go on TV shows then she has the free time to WORK! These people are unreal.

>>>Well, at least she didn’t get an abortion. Which would you all prefer?<<<

I’d prefer she have the baby and either give it up for adoption or support it through work, suing the “father”, or some other means that that does not mooch off of our tax dollars.

Honestly, it is her attitude that gets me. If she said, “I’ve messed up and gotten myself in a bad spot and I could really use some help”, I’d feel inclined to send her a few dollars. Instead, she feels like the taxpayers OWE HER enough money to meet all her needs.

Also, her talk of abortion ALMOST had the feel of extortion. Sort of like, “If you don’t give me money to finish law school I’m going to kill my baby and it will be YOUR fault!”

In fairness, the lousy reporter’s attitude was worse than hers and he probably egged her on to demand what she was “due”, from our wallets.

keep your legs together, sister.

Probably not the same person, but if you google "christine young" the top hits point to a girl who's business it is *not* to keep her legs together...

Your free to write her a check.

I could but it wouldn't be near what her needs will be until she's able to get back on her feet, might look into it.

I would love to tell my story someday. So much blessing and so much sadness, goodness and all. Leave it at, my Mother is my hero.

Yes, I would love to hear it but FR may not be the proper venue. It wasn't any virtue on my part, but I never found myself in her predicament. I can imagine how scared she must feel.

As to the bio dad, yes she can hang him for child support but maybe not until the baby is born plus he might demand dna tests, not sure how that works. There wasn't anything about her parents, they should help if they can. Above all, she should stay in school. If she's able to find something now, that is an option but if she quits school, she will have to work at low pay, maybe a law clerk, pay all her expenses plus child care.

She has a student loan, could be from a bank or the govt, hopefully she intends to pay it back. I can tell you what will happen if she doesn't and it's a govt one, probably rightly so, and, again, it wasn't I. Criminal law, maybe someday she'll get somebody convicted and off the streets. Chances are she'd have to do an internship in the form of court-appointed attorney, what fun that would be. Not.

The only resources she's consumed so far is to get some kind of exam and some pre-natal test. She looks healthy.

Whether or not to give the baby up is her decision. She did expose her behavior by going on tv and the subsequent vituperative comments; I'd be ashamed to do that. Evidently she fell through a crack for getting state aid as a student, no surprise there.

Here there are a lot of pro-life people who would help usually in tandem with state aid and one nice Catholic organization that even provides housing. As a student, I don't know what our state's welfare is for students in this situation.

In any case, maybe some kind souls will pitch in and do what they can for her. She's going to have a tougher road no matter which way she goes from here.
