Oh, good grief T.
I was thinking about it. What happened was that we went out to dinner and the person had a glass of wine with dinner. We were following him, he was speeding. Lights camera action, bingo he was pulled over. We went on by, but came back after a u-turn to see him getting handcuffed and thrown in the back of the squad car. He was charged with a DUI, had to pay a fine, attend some classes and lost his license for some months.
Now having said that, I can not tell you what transpired when he was pulled over. Maybe he was belligerent (not that I would do that), or maybe he had another drink that we did not witness.
I don't know for sure either way.
So I hate to admit this because it doesn't happen very often, I could have been wrrrrooonnnnng.

Broadcaster influences a lot more people and is a propaganda mouthpiece. That’s how.

Sorry, that reply doesn't explain to me how the cover-up by UT state media of crimes by a state legislator is comparable to the possible cover-up of crimes of a private citizen, broadcaster or not. I'm sure you can source your statement about the broadcaster, right?

Are you saying a state legislator has LESS influence because a broadcaster has a wide audience?

I'm also quite sure that if my ward bishop had been caught DWI it would have been big news to me, not to mention nude bathing with an underage girl.

It's entertaining to see the lengths that some folks will go to to excuse mormon leaders of their failings.

(Yes but when some of the media in Utah is owned by the church -- i.e. Des News, KSL.com -- not only do we have an integration of church & state, but they're sleeping together! That media's unfaithful to the truth!)

Whoever told you that they got a DUI for one glass of wine was either very light in weight ( ie 80 punds) or 2) one of the biggest liars you will ever come across. Unless this story happened to you specifically I do not believe it at all.

Well, you’re a big person to say so. But it’s not as if stuff like that doesn’t happen! So, maybe you were right :-)

I think you mean a .08. But still your comment is true. The individual would have had to down more than 8 ounces of wine in under an hour to get this reading ( unless it was a very petite woman under 95 pounds)

The other majority leader in the Utah legislature, also Lds, resigned not long ago (2010) for a DUI. So both the House & Senate state leaders had DUIs.

The joke in Utah is that if you go fishing with an LDS friend, you’d better bring two or he’ll drink all your beer :-)

1. Most people only testify to having “one drink”.
2. Pulling into a driveway and shutting out the lights is a good way to pretend that you weren’t driving.

I don’t believe it. You say you spoke with them???? SO you did not witness the ‘one glass’.

Blood alcohol levels do not lie. It is not just the AMOUNT that an individual consumes but a combination of things including how fast you drank; how much you drank; did you take any medication before drinking; when was your previous drink consumed.

Too many people think that they are not incapacitated when indeed they are. The key to uping the believability quotionent on this story is to tell us how tall the person is, how much does the person weigh, how fast they drank the wine, and finally what value showed up on the breathalyzer.

All of the information would allow us to better understand your comment. You have NO idea of how many people end up in front of the judge claiming to have had ‘just one glass of wine’ who blew a .1 or more and even had that value confirmed by a blood draw. Science is not your friend in these situations because the data are the data.

Name one state that has a DUI threshold below .08 ( be sure it is in the united states). Unless you are talking about under aged drinking and then there is a ZERO tolerance.

Fact is that a .07 is what you blow if you weigh 100 punds and slam 8 ounces of wine in hour. ( that is two properly poured glasses of either red or white).

Too many think that a ‘glass’ of wine should be at least 8 or 10 ounces and they are WRONG

It won’t be on her record ‘til the end of time’. DUI with no injuries involved drop off your record in 7 to 10 years ( depending on the state). If you injured someone, then it stays on.

Moreover she shouldn’t have gotten behind the wheel of a car in the first place. There is a that the campaign slogan is “Don’t Drink and Drive”

I have yet to meet the person who actually correctly estimates the impapirment caused by the alcohol they drink

She didn’t drive which was a good thing.
Colorado says if you are behind the wheel even if not moving and drunk its a DUI.
I will let her know that this will drop off her record.
I have never seen anyone as mortified as she has been. Probably a good thing.

You have NO idea how many people ‘fortify’ themselves before going out to dinner with friends.

Your guy was WAAAAAY over the limit if he was hand cuffed that quickly.

Hate to tell you but there are lots and lots of folks in AA who have NEVER gotten a DUI ( not for lacking trying). Denial is a powerful thing when it comes to alcohol. Folks seem perfectly fine until they aren’t

STUFF LIKE THAT.... sorry stuff like that does NOT happen. The data are the data. This person had to much alcohol in their system. They should NOT be on the road. PERIOD

EXATLY.

Fact is I always only ever drank one myself —— just kept freshen up that drink as it would get near the bottom
