"Amen" to that - and thanks for a well-informed post!

Health care is one thing, health insurance is another, and nothing's free...excellent point about the quality of care available here, and the innovations in medicine that keep improving the quality of care.

Query: which is more expensive dollar-wise, the current system of health care for all via the ER, with the insured getting over-billed? Or, converting to the "health care reform" package, where the Drs, hospitals, nursing/rehab. facilities and RD people get paid the government-established rate, and the rest of the insured still pay for those who can't afford it, only instead of paying ER fees, we're buying their "insurance" policies??

Wake up, people! Insurance isn't any more magic than your tax dollars! Especially in this economy. They can't just create as much needed money from other people's premiums paid to pay out on "universal coverage" for everyone else's major medical procedures. Why is this rock-solid truth never mentioned?!

/rant...yes to thoughtful and necessary reforms, no to further government managed health care.

He lost whatever credibility he had when he started inserting knives into the back of Sen. Fitzgerald at the behest of the Combine. No Republican, not even McCain, did more to put Zero in the White House than Ray LaHood.

Agree! He has no vote anymore, thank goodness, and what a piece of tripe that editorial was, with no offense intended to tripe...I thought exactly the same thing!

If Durbin doesn’t run for re-election, in 2014, LaHood will probably run for that seat. He thinks that, if he supports Obama’s health care bill, he can win, statewide.

They simply do not believe in the people and "limited governance" as written in the Constitution, which was written for exactly these reasons.

Agreed, it started with FDR and so many now believe that bigger government is the only way to win elections even though poll after poll says the exact opposite.

WHY would you kick him OUT of the Illinois Republican party? All of Illinois Republican Leadership IS JUST LIKE HIM!! Starting with Mark Kirk and the Illinois Republican National Chairman Pat Brady who will ONLY support candidates who support AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS.

“Query: which is more expensive dollar-wise...”

Thanks for your post. Clearly the most expensive option is the one being pushed by the Democrats. Further, the ‘expense’ goes significantly beyond the dollar costs. This nation has been successful precisely because we are not Europe and we are predicated on individual freedom, not social engineering.

Look through the pages of history. ‘The People’ didn't invent a workable light bulb. ‘The People’ didn't discover and exploit the properties of penicillin. ‘The People’ didn't discover and define the properties of electromagnetic radiation, paving the way for television, radio, and everything ‘wireless’ that we enjoy today. ‘The People’ didn't come up with a cure for Hodgkin Disease, or angioplasty and stents, or the anti-HIV drugs that have done more to help those with AIDS than any left-wing Hollywood narcissistic ‘do-gooder’ has ever done.

I could go on and on, as could everyone on this forum. The point is that individuals are the strength of humanity, and individualism is to be celebrated. Leftist politics is brimming with people who want themselves to be the only individuals that matter. They need that. They need to feel special and important, and they have no problem in taking away our right to define ourselves as individuals in the process of exalting themselves. It has always been thus with dictators. It has always been thus with the left.

".....even though poll after poll says the exact opposite.."

That may well be correct, however, even amongst my conservative friends, associates and family, one and all will find something with which they would agree that "the government needs to stop......." whether it is forcing babies and children to be placed in "approved" car seats, facing backward, now only in back seats, "approved" infant cribs, beds, etc., "approved fabric" for children's sleepers, bike helmets, on and on.

Even the most ardent conservative I know, will approve of many things that they believe the government should enforce.

Much began in the '70s and continued onward until there is precious little of our every day lives, that the government doesn't oblige us to follow.

I believe that for this very reason, people are demanding "something to be done" with problems regarding insurance.

Therefore, Obama-care has a very good chance of passing and never being reversed.

I take pride in the fact I exposed this scumbag to Illinois Republicans when I started a NoLaHood website in response to his "exploratory" campaign for Governor in 2006. What a disaster LaThug would have been -- possibly worse than Topinka. We knew this jerk was a RINO ever since he went after Fitzgerald. But since he took the 40 pieces of silver and joined the Obama adminstration, he's officially become a DIABLO. Steele should make it official and kick Obama's yes-man out of the GOP.

Seems LaThug has been a Democrat sleeper cell all along. The whole dog-and-pony show about being pro-life and for tax-cuts, etc., was simply to get elected in a seat that's been Republican for decades. I've never trusted the Peoria GOP machine, they're even bigger combiners than the Cook Co. "Republicans" on Madigan's payroll.

Lame.

The nanny state is getting way out of hand. Even though I personally buckle up from the beginning I was always against mandatory seat belt laws. People have to take responsibility for their own actions. That and helmet laws were really the beginning of mandating behavior for health and insurance reasons and now they’re moving onto food. Enough is enough, they need to be stopped.

I wonder how much they paid him to sign his name to this drivel?

Or, perhaps they said the concrete overshoes would not be used for a while, if he would only sign this article?

Obozo is pulling out all the stops, isn’t he?

Only complete Tort Reform will put a stake in the heart of all of the "individual behavior" laws will rid the U.S. of this kind of tyranny. The other thing that would be fantastic would be the "loser pays" laws that exist in G.B.

Another freedom limiting law is that which outlaws fireworks, even snakes (of course caps are really out as they take cap guns to really work.)

“Ray LaHood, a former Republican congressman from Illinois, is secretary of transportation in the Obama administration. “

THIS explains it all.

“He was one of only three Republican candidates who did not sign on to the Contract with America”

Indeed. There was your first major sign. Anyone know who the others were?

2 + 2 = 4

He’s a mole in the GOP, end of story.

His son ran for State’s Attorney I think it was, I’m glad he lost lest we have him running for higher office in the future.

Move over George Ryan you’ve know been edged out as my least favorite Illinois DIABLO scumbag.

I think the fact that he works for Obama is all the evidence anyone needs to prove he is a loser democrat, he makes RINOs look conservative.
