That would be my first guess too. I heard somewhere that Wal Mart doesn’t like to keep most things on the shelf longer than 2 weeks. If it isn’t moving, it is either reduced or shipped to a store where those items are moving.

Mattel and the participating retailers probably lose money on the Black Barbie, and they knew that would be the case going into the deal...PC cover has a cost.

I'd recommend that Wal Mart not even pander to the diverse racist professional victim class. Why even make a black Barbie if the company is going to be vilified anyway? At least if they didn't make one they would not have to lose money and the company would just have to take the complaining instead of the complaining and the loss of money.

I live in rural WV, my county was 99.8% white as of the last census. There is only about 5 black families in the entire county of 22,000. Yet, the local Wal-Mart always puts out a large collection of black Santa Claus and Nativity Scenes which always remain unsold and are still sitting in the clearance bin a month after Christmas for 75% off.
One of my favorite Christmas pastimes is to buy a black Santa tree topper from the dollar store and discretely put it on top of my father-in-law's Christmas tree. Every year the word's, "That G-d D-mn Mike!" echo throughout the house when he finds it! It brings me great joy! ;-)

Isn’t this a case of Walmart just trying to make a Barbie affordable for the lower-income clients? Why are these complainers trying to keep Barbies out of the hands of the less fortunate? Why ask them to pay more than the retailer wants them to pay? Where’s the compassion?
