WASHINGTON—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's wife and daughter were hospitalized Thursday—the wife with a broken back and neck—after their minivan was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck on an interstate highway in suburban Virginia, authorities said.

Reid's wife, Landra, 69, and the couple's daughter, Lana Barringer, 48, were taken by ambulance to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. Neither woman's injuries appeared to be life-threatening, and the daughter was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday night, Reid aides said. Mrs. Reid was listed in serious condition.

"Mrs. Reid has a broken nose, broken back and broken neck,'' Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a statement. "Lana has a neck injury and facial lacerations. Both Mrs. Reid and Lana are conscious, can feel their extremities, and according to doctors their injuries are non-life threatening.''

t sounds like they weren’t buckled up.

I read the story on Drudge. Everyone had a seat belt on. And let me say, as a person who is alive today because of a seat belt, riding in a car without one is sheer idiocy.

I agree, but my guess at 69 with a broke back and broke neck she may not be vertical again.

As upset as I am at Reid, I can’t extend anything but sympathy to his wife and daughter.

Recovery for his wife might be really hard, considering her age. I hope they both do well, and have a good recovery. Let us all pray that Reid learns something about health care in this country, and realizes the folly of his ways.

Prayers to the wife and daughter. Also to Reid himself. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

” Mr. Reid (D., Nev.) went to the hospital after being notified of the accident and returned to Capitol Hill for a meeting with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on efforts to pass health care legislation... “

His wife has a fractured neck and back and
he leaves her to pow wow with Rahm and Nancy ??
That’s cold.

20 years of driving loads up to 12 feet wide, 100 feet long and sometimes weighing in at over 110,000 pounds I can say with unbending confidence that mini-vans with women behind the wheel are absolutely THE most dangerous vehicle on the road. Period.

That may not be the case here, I’ll admit. I realize the trucker got a ticket.

But personal experience jaundices my view.

You must live in another part of the country than I do. I use to travel a lot on I65 and I always watched for the truckers. I would always help them change lanes when they needed to. They are the ones bringing our goods to us. God bless all of them.

I have seen stupid car drivers change lanes right in front of a trucker. I have not seen a wreck caused by them yet, but I know it will happen.

God bless you, sir. I try to help truckers any way I can when on the roads. My late daughter and I were on I65 when we noticed a trucker having trouble changing lanes so I slowed down so he could get in my lane. When he got off the interstate, he honked his horn for my daughter. Made her day.

I use to live in the DC area. And God bless them but, I’ve had trucks run right up on my bumper and thought I was going to be run over.

I hear ya! I’m no truck driver but I really think the DMV needs to Flunk more of these POS drivers. They don’t know how to drive and there’s been more than a few times they have almost gotten me and passengers killed as well because of their incompetence.
The problem seems this day and age if your stupid or insane you get a free pass in life.

I pay attention to truckers and what they are doing. I have never had that to happen to me because I look out for them and change lanes to get out of their way. They are on a time table and it will not bother me to be a few minutes late. That is a whole lot better than causing them to be behind some driver 45 mph on an interstate. My biggest peeve is drivers who are in a great hurry to get in my lane and then slow down to a crawl. I have had near misses with those nuts.

There not perfect so there are some pretty bad drivers both truck and car. Doesn’t matter what time table there on, they have no business endangering people lives by riding right up on your bumper.

Rear ended by an 18 wheeler is a scary thought. My prayers for both of them.

That said, I hope to see the entier family retired and healthy back in Nevada come November.
