EPA to let states address rising ocean acidity By GENE JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer Gene Johnson, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 22 mins ago SEATTLE – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it will consider ways the states can address rising levels of carbon dioxide in oceans. The agency on Thursday settled a lawsuit filed last year by the Center for Biological Diversity in San Francisco. The problem stems from oceans absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and results in the rising acidity of the water. It seriously threatens shellfish and other marine life. The lawsuit accused the EPA of acting improperly when it approved a list of impaired waters in Washington state that omitted the state's coastal waters. In the settlement the EPA agrees to hear from the public in developing ways that the states can use the Clean Water Act to regulate pollutants that cause ocean acidification.

This is the sickest thing I've ever seen come out of the EPA.

This is a Marxist Coup folks. If you are not actively fighting this...then you better start now.

"Already the hour is late. Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. ... We approach the point of no return when government becomes so huge and entrenched that we fear the consequences of upheaval and just go along with it."

The blue states will probably try to use this to get extra federal funding to clean up what doesn't need to be cleaned up. Another way to scam the tax payer through stimulus funding.

I wonder if they rushed to get a ruling on this before they tryed to pass the "Cap and trade" crap or what ever it is called now "the clean air act".

This is pure unadulterated steaming male bovine excrement. The ocean acts as a CO2 sink because of phytoplankton. These organisms account for more synthesis of CO2 into O2 than all land-based plants put together.

We’re past the point of being law abiding citizens. F them all, all their rules and regulations. Come and get me.

Global warming will take care of that.

The University of Junk Science certainly gets around.

The Center for Biological Diversity. What a Leftest name. The only thing more left would be The Center for Biological Peace and Justice.

There is nothing wrong with our oceans. Even if there were a higher level of CO2 the oceans could only absorb a trace amount. CO2 isn't very soluble in water. When forced into solution it forces back.

The frauds at the EPA have got to go. They can take the U.N. frauds with them.

Yep...it is the largest sink for CO2. It is beneficial for marine plant and animal life (carbonate shells).

The amount of pseudo-science the EPA and the Marxist Center for Biological Diversity uses...is staggering.

The EPA has been taken over by totalitarian thugs.

NOTE TO EPA: We the People, as members of the several States, confer rights to you, not the other way around.

EPA could use it’s resources better to study genetically modified organisms in farming and pharma which they have approved without study. High fructose corn syrup would be a great start.. what happened to cane sugar?

Gee, I wonder if they ever stopped for one nanosecond to consider that much of the sand in the ocean and many of the creatures shells are made of Calcium Carbonate.

So they are telling us CO2 is going to turn the entire ocean into a giant bubbling cauldron?

IDIOTS!

The carbonate radical is the backbone of marine life. For every molecule of carbon dioxide dissolved in the ocean there is an organism that will take it up. Actually most CO2 goes back into the atmosphere. Nature gets the rest.

For the EPA types, nothing is good enough for them. We solved the acid rain problem nearly 20 years ago. Was credit give? No. The environmentalists went looking for another problem to to create and exaggerate.

You wouldn’t care if a major American city was wiped out by an Iranian nuke? With all due respect, that is the most un-American steaming pile of crap I’ve ever read here on FR. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

The NEXT BIG THING for WORLD SOCIALISTS...Globull Warming wasn’t quite so successful...

NOW the new CRISIS will be INCREASING ACIDITY OF OCEANS.

Same SCAM, different wrapper.

We’ll all be told we must surrender our personal property, wealth and freedoms to the Government in order to avoid complete catastrophe.

Not sure, can still get it. They just don't use it in processed foods anymore.

Anyways I used to think diet drinks gave me a headache from the sweetener they used. Then I found some throwback sodas that use real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. Same headaches. Wasn't the diet sweetener, it was the lack of whatever they do to high fructose corn syrup that was giving the headaches.

There are about 342543511 cubic miles of water in the oceans (think of a cube 700 miles along each edge!). I’m impressed if we can change the pH enough to matter - considering that we have about 60,000,000,000 gallons per person.
