DALLAS - A Dallas church that has held Sunday worship service at a public housing apartment complex for the elderly for 14 years has been ordered to stop.

Dallas Housing Authority president MaryAnn Russ told the Dallas Morning News that the church services violate separation of church and state and the agency's contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which funds public housing programs.

The church is gonna win this one. You can’t put people in government housing and then say, “since this is owned by the government, nothing religious can happen”. In this is the kernel of why that teacher was allowed to include God in his classroom posters. Just because someone is an employee of the state, you can’t take away their religious freedom.

That is because, as most of us here know, the phrase “wall of separation” is only a term used in someones letter to someone else. It is not part of the documents controlling how our government functions.

That is because, as most of us here know, the phrase “wall of separation” is only a term used in someones letter to someone else. It is not part of the documents controlling how our government functions.

The reason I know that is because of this great web site called Free Republic. I sure didn't learn it in public school, where a third of my 'Social Studies' textbook was filled up with praises for the New Deal. I remember we spent weeks on that and was ticked off that we glossed over the American Revolution, which had piqued my interest at an even younger age when we read Johnny Tremain.

Sadly, much of the general public spouts on about the "Separation Of Church And State" like it is some monolithic rule that makes mixing religion and government akin to combining bleach and chlorine. I've told people of the origin of the phrase "separation of church and state" and the looks on their faces are revelatory.

The 1st says Congress is forbidden to pass a law that has anything to do with an establishment of religion or that prohibits the free exercise of religion.

Whatever law that funded the federal housing, if it effectively does either of those two things, is forbidden by the 1st.

Therefore, the LAW passed by Congress should be declared null and void if the Court rules that there is an establishment of religion or prohibition of free exercise.

Instead, the Court forbids religion, setting the 1st on its ear.

Most bozos engage in this "separation of church and state" garbage even when no such violation is present. These are overreactions to the fear that the piggies down at the aCLU will end up taking them to court and they just want to avoid the hassle and expenditures fooling around with our out of whack "legal system". In their desire to pacify the piggies down at the aCLU, they end up violating the rights of other Americans.
