A Deer Creel Middle School student who witnessed the shooting in Littleton said a man with long blonde hair, wearing a hat fired at least two shots. "From what I could see he was older, not like a teenager," the student, who was only identified by her first name, told the station. "It sounded like fireworks. Deer Creek, like Columbine, is in the Jefferson County school district. It is one of the middle schools which feeds into Columbine High School.

I would like to take these shooters, tie them up somewhere, and slowly dismember them alive - one joint at a time.

I HATE these damn bastards!!!

Brave teacher:

Deer Creek Middle School math teacher David Benke tackled the shooter but couldn’t stop one more shot from being fired, according to his wife, Sandra Benke.

David Benke, who has taught at the school for a decade, called his wife to tell her there had been a shooting just after school and that he had tackled the gunman “but the shooter got a shot off and it hit one of his students,” she said.

Several witnesses described seeing an adult racing at the gunman after the first shot was fired, and a parent confirmed it was Benke. Authorities have yet to confirm those reports.

Benke, who has a doctorate and was a finalist for Colorado Teacher of the Year in 1996, told his wife that he was OK.

to tell her there had been a shooting just after school and that he had tackled the gunman pulled his own weapon and shot the perp “but the shooter got a shot off and it hit one of his students, preventing any injuries to students” she said.

Ah to be in a Free, sane Country again.

Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said the two juveniles have been transported to a hospital.

He said one victim was shot inside the school, the other outside. The shooting was reported at 3:14 p.m., according to Techmeyer. The students were said to be a 7th grader and an 8th grader.

Techmeyer said that the wounds are not life-threatening although the man was using a “high-powered weapon.”

Jared Nelson, 13, was on a bus when he saw the gunman round a corner on the north side of the school, pull a rifle off his shoulder, fire a round into the air and then shoot a student.

“It was kind of shocking when I saw it happening,” he said.

Several people said that math teacher David Benke then charged and tackled the gunman as he got off a second shot.

Sean Ahearn, 13, saw the same scene unfold, dropped his cello, and jumped in a stranger’s car. Then he called his mother, Colleen, with chilling words: “Don’t come and get me. Somebody’s shooting in the school. I’m in a lady’s car.”

Luke Myrant, 14, says an older guy came in the front door and fired one shot into the air and then reloaded.

“He didn’t look happy at all,” Luke said.

The kids scattered.

I don’t understand this. I recently took my kids out of a nearby Jeffco school in favor of a Christian school. I couldn’t get into the public school without having to talk to an adult (who never remembered I was a parent). How did this man just walk into the school with a rifle?

No matter what his political affiliation, he was brave to charge a man with a rifle. He saved other kids from being shot.
