Obama Seeks Return to Campaign-Style Discipline

WASHINGTON -- Facing criticism that President Barack Obama isn't connecting with the American people, the administration is infusing its communications strategy with some of the ironclad discipline and outside-the-box thinking that made the Obama presidential campaign so successful.

Sensitive about talk that the president was sometimes overexposed during his first year in office, the White House now is more discriminating about how and when the president deals with media -- and about whom he talks to when he does.

Aides say there's no formal reevaluation of the administration's communications strategy as the president embarks on his second year in office. But with Obama's poll numbers flat-lining, his agenda on the ropes and Democrats increasingly worried about losing ground in November's election when control of Congress will be at stake, the White House is taking an approach to getting out the message about the president's accomplishments and goals that is at once more aggressive and more streamlined.

That includes:

-- More direct rapid response to criticism....

-- More events at which the president speaks directly to the public without the filter of the media...

-- Carefully choreographed interactions with the press. Unlike news conferences that are unscripted and can cover many topics and put reporters in competition with the president for the spotlight, the Obama team is trying to place a premium on its media interactions.

It's an approach similar to the one employed successfully by the Obama campaign during the 2008 presidential race.

"We ran everything through one strategic filter -- how does this help us win the election?" said White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer, who held the same title during the campaign. "Anything that didn't help us do that, we didn't do."

No press conferences. Only fully-staged side shows.

Right... so the issue is not his radically Marxist policies...

- it’s that he hasn’t responded to criticism (hey to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News)

- hasn’t spoken directly to the people enough (hey to 3 joint sessions of Congress the last year and about a half dozen prime time press conferences)

- without the filter of the media (they misspelled “sycophantic, slobbering, tongue in his ear, fawning media”)

- and the press has too much control over events (yeah...like the scripted town hall questions)

Sure...sounds like a winning plan to sell his radical agenda...

They're living in a dream world. What made the Obama campaign "so successful" was a POS opposition candidate, a terrible economy and a gimmick candidate.

THESE IDIOTS DON’T REALIZE THE “BIG LIE CAMPAIGN” ONLY WORKS ONCE. Once the people are on to you and your lying ways, it’s game over.

So are we are going back to "Hope and Change" and "Yes We Can"? Isn't the cat already out of the bag? It's too late to be changing the message. Shouldn't he be thinking about changing the strategy (policy) and not just changing the tactics (approach and message)? We are really heading for a disaster if they are digging in and plan on managing the media and the message.

For Obama, every issue is black, white, and shades of gray. He speaks to every side and all sides at once in every speech. In the confusion, people picked out what they wanted to hear and ignored the eloquent negations of every taken position. This is Obama's reflective gift, or was anyway. Now everyone is on to the game and I don't see how they are going to bring it back.

Yup. It only works once and only when the public is wearing race guilt blinders. That day is in the past.

It will be interesting to see if the lame stream media will agree to being neutered once again.

I agree. Obama is a one trick pony and the country is already tired of the act. The only way back to credibility is through policy that produces good results and they have no idea how to do this.

"Obama Seeks Return to Campaign-Style Discipline"

Actually, he has never left "campaign-style"...which is most of the problem.

The undocumented americans (kenyan) doesn't see that he is doing any thing wrong, he thinks he's just saying it wrong, and we just don't understand his grand scheme of things.

Therein lies the problem - for him. We DO see his grand scheme, and we don't like it.

He want's to talk directly to the public without the "filter" of the media...well, knowing "Mr. foot-in-mouth-without-a-teleprompter", probably NOT agood idea.

He has already sprayed the American public...at least the majority of it...with obama repellent; many people can't stand the sound of his voice, or his down-the-nose attitude. His very presence on the tube makes people scramble for the remote to change the channel.

He is already seen for what he is - a radical socialist bent on communism - and it's too late to put the toothpaste back in the tube. It's obvious that he wants to take down America, and is trying to sidestep some unanticipated obstacles...like the American people standing up against him.

We all know that he's a devout liar, and has lied about everything from his first day in front of his 'prompter. It's what he does. If he ever told the truth, he would later lie about the truth he told.

The man-child pResident is out to try and recapture the "love and adoration" he felt during the campaign season, but he'll find that the "media filter" he so wants to avoid, was the main source of most of that love and adoration by being billed as the "messiah"...which could only be true if we're talking about the kingdom of "hell".

With the debt he has single-handedly piled upon our children and several more generations to come, and what he has done to our America, there is absolutely nothing "campaign-style" he could ever do to turn back the clock...nothing.

He still doesn't realize that a lot of the support he got back in the election were white people afraid of being called "racist", George Bush fatiguers, and/or Juan McCain't disgusteds who just stayed home. He'll always be "smack-daddy" for most of the black community with the money and gubbmint jobs he doling out to them, so that 25-30% is pretty solid.

So, I say let him roll out his recycled campaign manager and have at it...however...we don't need a candidate right now, we need a pResident; to bad we don't have one that's up to the job. For every "vote" he gets as a candidate, he loses 10 as pResident.

To bad he didn't heed my advice in January of /08...WALK YOUR TALK, OR SHUTTUP.

So can the “Oh he will now move the center” pundits in the media please STFU. The Senate and House now look lost for the Obama and he is gearing up to be the opposition party. The liberals love to be in that mode, the professional critics and protesters, leading they don’t do so well. The last straw was the spider and fly routine Obama tried on healthcare with the Pubbies. Cap and Tax dead, healthcare dead(there will be no reconciliation), after the census employment zooming up towards 11%, interest rates will skyrocket and the coup de grace, gas shooting up over the Summer to 3.50 per gallon. Waterloo was so correct, it was prophetic and historically accurate.
