I also have read that that stupid “batboat” was involved in the death of a Guatemalan fisherman somewhere when they went on their publicity cruise prior to embarking on this ill-fated maiden voyage into the “war”.

It was a few years ago and I saw it on the news.

Anyway the incident is mentioned here:

Along with some other highlights from their terrorist activities.

I agree with everything you said, although I have not eaten whale and I’m not sure that I could. However, I would like to travel to Japan someday. I find the Japanese an interesting people.

I spent my youth on the Oregon coast and I have a love for all things of the sea. I am most at home at, near, in or on the sea. I can see the Strait of Juan de Fuca from my house, I am looking at it right now. Orca come through the Straight every year and I would like that to continue, except when I am sport fishing for salmon... LOL

At the age of 10, my family (mom, dad and 6 brats) adopted a 3 day old seal. His name was “Nuisance” and he became famous around the world. I raised him for 3 years and loved every minute of the experience. We also raised a seal named Sammy for the Zoo in Portland Oregon, OMSI. I couldn’t kill these creatures unless I had to just to survive. Well, Sammy would bite, so killing him might not have been so difficult. ;>)

Strange, I am not as friendly in my thinking as it pertains to humans. ;>)

The prop foulers get me. The other stuff these guys do is harrassment, but fowling props to me is unthinkable outside of wartime because it is a direct act of aggression, an act of war. It’s the equivalent of shredding the sails of an old sailing ship. It leaves you dead in the water, at the mercy of the waves, a high potential for the loss of the lives of the crew.

The whalers should be able to blow out of the water any ship that attempts to foul their props.

Loved the video of the batship getting sunk.

But dude, whales are mammals, not fish.

And the following is just plain silly:

Then they like to hurl packets of smelly foods such as rancid butter and other food items at the fishermen. The spoiled food is used in the hopes that they will get lucky and hit a fisherman in the mouth and get him sick from food poisoning.

C'mon...if real, certainly to annoy, but to cause food poisoning?

How I would love to have a heavily armed fast attack boat to escort those Japanese whalers with.

It would tickle me to no end to engage and destroy all those filthy ecoterrorists and their ships engaged in acts of piracy.

Thanks for that post - interesting perspective on what's up with the circumstances over yonder. I guess it will take some of the whalers getting killed due to the deliberate actions of those Shepherd clowns before someone will finally make a tangible effort at putting them ashore and out of business for good.

Like Al Queda the way to go after them is to go after those who fund them. If the SS Bob Barker is used to ram whalers, bring a damages suit against Bob Barker. Quick simple. Even if you lose you run up huge court fees and dissuade other contributions.

Yeah, that sounds like a plan if somebody would just get off their asses and get after it. Follow the crumbs on up the financial food chain and make a stink on them - drag it out into the world media and so forth - "...the embattled supporter(s) of the Sea Shepherds..." has a nice ring to it.

Yeah, that sounds like a plan if somebody would just get off their asses and get after it.

The problem is that most nations (if not all nations) act in their own self interest. At this point the only nation that has a vested interest in continued whaling is Japan. The Australians don't want to rock the boat politically by going after a popular group with their left, to defend a bunch of whalers who are violating their territorial waters. Going after the Sea Hippies will get the tree huggers here all up in a tizzy. And the US actually makes tax money off of Whale Wars series.

The Sea Hippies are like a big pile of crap. Evey one wants it to go away, but nobody wants to be the one to get their hands stinky to get the job done.

Oh yeah, satisfaction guaranteed, judging from the experience a relative of mine had with a similar pack of a-holes many decades ago. He and a crew raked their ship from one end to the other with 5 inch 38 and 40mm bofors, absolutely trashing it - it sank pieces at a time. They went to blasting the survivors but couldn't get their AAA to elevate low enough and they had no .50 cal M2s, so they broke out the rifles and shot everything whether it was moving or not - problem solved - the s***heads now sleep with the fishies. No more BS went on in their area after that.

Of course - it's always a self interest game, nations base their policies on self interest and nothing else, which is what keeps so much stuck on high center instead of working out the way that it should. If any Japanese fisherman is severely injured or even dies, I expect the families will go after who all they can find responsible, governments included, and be tenacious as hell about it. The governments may want to dance around the issues, but the families won't - the tolerance wouldn't be there.

I would like to have seen the Ady Gil actually slip beneath the surface. The video ends too soon.
