Ripples of Dubai killing spread across region

Dubai, UAE -- A shadowy figure murdered in his Dubai hotel room by a hit squad that the police say operated with European passports. It sounds like the plot of a John Le Carré spy novel, but this is reality and the hunt is on for the killers of top Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh...al-Mabhouh landed at Dubai International airport on January 19. Then, a short drive to his hotel, the al Bustan Rotana, where just hours later he would be killed.

Dubai police say he was not traveling under his real name, so the hotel staff would have been unaware he was one of the founding members of Hamas' military wing and was wanted by Israel for more than 20 years.

...His brother in Gaza tells CNN he never ate or drank in a hotel or on a plane as he knew he was a target...

Dubai police...told al-Mabhouh's family there were signs of five or six electric shocks on his legs, behind his ears, on his genitals and heart. Blood on a pillow led police to believe he was suffocated...

It's believed they left the country even before al-Mabhouh's body was discovered. Dubai police...have publicly voiced surprise that such a figure within Hamas was traveling without his own security.

At his family home in Gaza there is the same conviction that Israel's intelligence unit, Mossad, was responsible...Al-Mabhouh was behind the kidnapping and killing of two Israeli soldiers in 1989. Israeli security sources say al-Mabhouh was a key link between Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas and he was involved in smuggling arms to Gaza....

He was killed by his own security; that’s why there were no guards in his hotel room when police arrived.

...or at least, that’s what I’d say if I was Mossad!

And I would have to agree.

Al-Mabhouh was behind the kidnapping and killing of two Israeli soldiers in 1989.

Mossad doesn't forget about these things.

The story doesn’t indicate if they know the location of his security detail. The weren’t in the room when the body was found. The people who did this had time to interrogate the subject prior to him dying.

The subject was careful enough to take as many precautions as possible to avoid risk.

Whoever did this was good. I’m wondering if the entire detail wasn’t abducted and processed somewhere else.

If you click on the link and read the story, it says, "Dubai police say he then left the hotel, returning around 9:30 p.m. They want to know where he was during that time and, crucially, who he met...Dubai police have publicly voiced surprise that such a figure within Hamas was traveling without his own security."

More mystery

“Dubai police have publicly voiced surprise that such a figure within Hamas was traveling without his own security”

There are only two things that would make him do that. First, he is meeting with someone that if seen might jeopardize his existence in the world of Hamas. Secondly... a woman.

I caught that, but I don’t buy it.

Nowadays, there would have been security, but it wouldn’t have been as overt as a secret service detail would be.

I guy like him, traveling alone, wouldn’t have even been able to take a cell phone with him nowadays. That’s how good surveillance has become. Even a prepaid phone can be used to paint a target once you know who he or she is.

For someone this prominent to travel without a detail of any kind, the subject would have had to have gone very heavily disguised. For a Muslim, a change of gender would have been very easy to pull off. In fact, a member of your detail could have been disguised as the husband of the subject to enhance both security and cover.

The subject could have just gotten careless I guess, but who knows. All I know is that for a team to get this guy, have the time to interrogate, and then kill the subject in the hotel room in a Muslim country is pretty amazing. A good get, as it were.

You kinda get the tone that Dubai is more concerned with the rights of the Islamic Terrorist just offed....than the people that have been terrorized by this Hamas higher-up.....

The Quran Thumpers just hang together no matter what.

Kudos to whoever offed this Islamic Terrorist. Better that the Islamic Terrorist is now with his 72 Virgins and not killing innocents
